Industrial Metal Supply Company, the largest metal distributor in the Southwest, is looking for a dynamic Senior Warehouse Manager and operations leader with a demonstrated history in people development and promoting a culture of safety first to run our fast paced warehouse and value-added metal cutting operations.
POSITION OVERVIEW

Leads and directs warehouse personnel through the Warehouse Floor Supervisors to include the monitoring of work quality, and individual and team performance. Arranges the timely onboarding of new associates, continuous safety and equipment training, and addressing facility, housekeeping and maintenance issues. Oversees daily warehouse operations including the implementation and advancement of process and procedure functions. Instructs and mentors warehouse floor associates. Performs related duties as required..

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
With Little and No Supervision and Direction:
• Performs and supervises activities including receiving, stocking, order processing, customer truck delivery, and will call in the most effective manner through proper supervision of Warehouse Floor Supervisors and associates.
• Maintains an orderly work flow, meeting schedules within operating budgets.
• Support the Warehouse Floor Supervisors.
• Creates and models a culture of “safety first”, ensuring that all associates who work or enter warehouse areas follow Company safety rules.
• Establishes and implements warehouse training and development plan and directs the overall warehouse associate development process.
• Collaborates with the Human Resources Department to conduct the hiring of warehouse associates, ensuring that quality and safety conscience candidates are hired.
• Creates a culture of quality throughout the warehouse processes and systems in association with material handling, receiving, proper movement, the loading of materials, packaging of customer orders, accuracy of paperwork, and the inspection of processed orders.
• Using Company and other appropriate training resources, develops training plans for shift supervisors to increase their knowledge and experience in the metal industry and leadership and warehouse management operations.
• Coordinates the implementation and monitors the compliance for all International Organization of Standardization (ISO) procedures pertaining to warehouse operations, in a timely manner.
• Maintains an organized warehouse with stock and non-stock items tagged, segregated in proper stocking locations with lot and heat traceability.
• Establishes and monitors production standards and procedures for adherence and timeliness.
• Monitors the preventive maintenance schedules of all warehouse vehicles and equipment.
• Ensures that daily checklists associated with processing equipment, forklifts, side loaders, order pickers and warehouse vehicles are followed, and properly documented and stored in a timely basis.
• Provides detailed content in the performance evaluation of direct reports.
• Reviews and approves supervisors’ performance evaluations of their direct reports.
• Maintains a line of communication with the General Manager and Inside Sales Manager, ensuring that management is informed and updated on warehouse staffing and operational issues.
• Visits existing customers periodically to evaluate changing customer needs and desires.
• Proactively monitors a number of warehouse parameters to include warehouse payroll, warehouse expense, warehouse overtime and proper staff levels; the maintenance of buildings, equipment and grounds and warehouse supplies; the safety program, truck delivery schedules, vacation schedules, quality control and test reports.
• Maintains a clean warehouse environment at all times, ensuring that proper housekeeping is followed during shifts and effectively coordinated between shifts.
• Follows Company protocols in investigating and documenting all safety incidents including workers’ compensation accidents, near-misses, driver accidents and incidents, and customer accidents.
• Directs the Storm Water Hazard Prevention Program monitoring and response processes to ensure compliance with pollution discharge regulations, thereby avoiding violations and related fines.
• Accepts responsibility and accountability to maintain a safe work environment for associates, customers, and guests.
• Chairs the Branch Safety Committee.
• Prepares and maintains a job safety analysis for each job function within the plant, identifying the steps required to perform each job, determine the associated hazards, and make recommendations to address all hazards.
• Disseminates job safety analysis to all affected employees.
• Delivers coaching sessions for direct reports on all shifts with resulting documentation.
• Directs supervisors in matters of safety commitment, safety compliance and communication.
• Reviews, investigates, addresses, communicates and documents all work-related injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions or practices.
• Ensures that new or transferred employees have been adequately trained on safety hazards, general safety and equipment specific safety practices, and use of personal protective equipment prior to assignment of work.
• Responsible for all warehouse associates receiving continuous training on proper lifting techniques.
• Directs the Modified Duty Return to Work Program.
• Ensures that progressive discipline and the associated records are applied for all safety violations.
• Provides an adequate supply of first aid and personal protective equipment at all times.
• Administers the self-inspection program and takes necessary actions to improve work conditions.
• Performs the annual inspection of lockout and tagout procedures and maintains associated documentation.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES
In accordance with applicable organizational policies/procedures and Federal/State laws, may perform the following supervisory responsibilities:
Interviewing, hiring orienting and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/CORE COMPETENCIES
The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Please note that the minimum qualifications may vary based upon the department size and/or geographic location.
• Exercising independent judgment and decision making based on standard policy and procedures.
• Strong customer, quality and results orientation.
• Strong knowledge and clear understanding of Company products and processing equipment.
• Knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite computer software.
• Knowledge of warehouse equipment such as, but not limited to, a forklift and other processing equipment.
• Knowledge of International Organization of Standardization (ISO) procedures.
• Knowledge of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B30.2 standards for crane operation.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of sound personnel management and supervision.
SKILLS
• Practically applying proficient math skills, proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Strong detail orientation and understanding of safe work processes and procedures.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite computer software and IMS business systems.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Strong customer, quality and results orientation.
• Strong knowledge of warehouse and distribution operations required.
• Knowledge of production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective warehousing and distribution of goods.
• Properly operates basic measuring tools, including calipers, a micrometer, and tape measures, converting metric and English measurements when required.
• Operating applicable vehicles and loading machinery to include forklifts, side loaders, scissor lifts, and an overhead crane.
• Operating a battery charging station for vehicles.

REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS
• High school graduation or equivalent.
• An associate’s degree or trade/technical school certification is preferred.
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a warehouse or distribution environment is preferred.
• A minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in a warehouse or distribution environment is required.

LICENSES CERTIFICATES
The following are the licenses and/or certificates which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.
• Must possess a valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent, maintained throughout course of employment.
• Must possess an OSHA Compliant Forklift certification, maintained through course of employment.
• Must possess an OSHA Compliant Scissor Lift certification, maintained through course of employment.

Must be able to see, hear, speak and write clearly in order to communicate with employees and/or other customers; manual dexterity required for occasional reaching and lifting of small objects, and operating office equipment. Must wear Company mandated Personal Protective Equipment at all times in designated areas. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds without assistance.
