Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, the region’s largest hunger fighting agency, annually distributing almost 80 million pounds of food and household items in a 24 county region in North Carolina and South Carolina, is looking for dedicated and compassionate individuals to fill the following position in our Williamston warehouse:
Warehouse Assistant:
Primary Duties:
- Carry out all primary duties listed below.
- Maintain food storage, refrigerated and frozen foods in the warehouse.
- Maintain warehouse and freezer area in a manner that ensures compliance with external regulatory bodies and assures integrity and accountability of inventory.
- Follows standard operating procedures, safety policies, and inventory control guidelines to ensure safe and accurate outcomes.
- Pull orders accurately and communicate any discrepancies to manager.
- Properly complete all applicable paperwork.
- Maintains clean and organized work spaces. Complete Cleaning and Maintenance Zone Checklists for Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Quarterly. Submitting Completed Checklists to Warehouse Manager.
- Operate Sit-down forklift and Electric pallet jack safely in moving/loading/unloading truckloads of product and supplies as needed.
- Maintains supply inventory for daily project use.
- Participates in SHFBM activities as needed.
- Participates in special assignments at the request of the Regional Branch Manager.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED required. Food Safety Certification (provided by SHFBM). Forklift experience required.
- Minimum of one year experience in a distribution center. Working knowledge of reclamation principals and procedures.
Skills/Competencies:
- Good verbal communication skills. Good time management and prioritization skills. Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and in a team environment. Ability to interact and instruct diverse audiences. Good attention to detail.
Working Conditions: Warehouse environment. Safety sensitive position due to regular interaction with heavy machinery. Must be able to perform moderate to heavy physical labor (lift 30 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally). Daily walking, bending, reaching, pushing and pulling (300 lbs. with use of manual pallet jack). Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and reaching. Must be able to work in constantly changing climate temperatures, humid and noisy conditions.
Hours: Monday thru Friday (7:00am - 4:00pm)
The position reports directly to the Regional Branch Manager.
