The Vice President of Acute Hospital Medicine (VP/AHM) will be responsible for the long-term strategic vision, growth, and development of system-wide hospitalist services with a primary emphasis on overseeing the strategic, fiscal, and operational goals of the inpatient-centered care services in concert with the health system's vision and mission. This position will also lead the quality outcomes of the hospitalist program to support the system's overall organizational priorities. Additionally, the VP/AHM will provide leadership, management, and direction of all acute care hospitalist services at Premier Health facilities and serve as the critical liaison between Premier Health and SCP Hospitalists Division advisory, bringing key clinical and administrative support initiatives to the hospitalists program.

 

The VP/AHM is responsible and accountable for working closely with physicians, APPs, leadership, and Premier Health leadership across the continuum to shape, guide, and direct the overall initiatives and daily operations. The VP/AHM functions as a member of the Premier Physician Network administrative team. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, staffing, influencing, and coordinating. She/he functions as an integrator and facilitator of system, institutional, interdepartmental, and interdisciplinary communications. The incumbent participates in the formulation, interpretation, and execution of company and system strategic plans.

 

The VP/AHM will provide direction, oversight, and coordination with the hospital Program Directors (PD) and Medical Directors for driving consensus in critical operating decisions, including strategy and budget development, financial management, staffing, etc., for the following areas:  

 

  • Clinical skills 
  • Medical Records Completion 
  • Provide regular feedback to Medical Directors on performance and offer coaching as needed 
  • Orientation and mentoring of New Medical Directors 
  • Compliance with applicable Hospital standards 
  • Assist with Review and Implementation of Medical Records Requirements 
  • Patient Satisfaction and complaint resolution 
  • Attention to patient throughput, and other operational efficiency indicators; offering and discussing issues and solutions with Division Medical Officer 
  • Participate in Provider Risk Reviews 
  • Work with other providers, in conjunction with the Corporation, to maintain and improve acceptable standards 
  • Support the site PD in recruitment activities to maintain a full complement of qualified providers

 Required Qualifications:
  • A degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited and approved school of medicine
  • Board certified physician
  • Current state license or unencumbered eligibility (not excluded by the OIG) for a license issued by the state Board of Medicine. 
  • 5 - 7  years of job related experience 
  • A minimum of 7 years of clinical practice with demonstrated achievement; minimum of 3 years in hospital leadership roles. 
  • Experience in healthcare and physician operations management   
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in budgetary and operational management related to core services.  
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop strategic plans  
  • Experience monitoring and managing physician practice productivity and the peer review process.  
  • A relationship builder and effective communicator across the organization including medical staff, senior management, clinical leaders, staff, and patients.  
  • Experience building bridges between physicians and hospitals with results measured through patient, employee and physician satisfaction scores and related action plans  

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Healthcare or Business Administration
  • Experience with the Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies and experience working in matrix reporting environment
