Position Title, Specialty: Registered Nurse II, Acute
Shift/Hours: Days /30 hours per week
The position involves three shifts with rotation shifts between 0600-2130, depending on department needs.
Expected Salary Range: Minimum $34.50/hour; Mid-point $43.54/hour; Salary determined based on years of nursing experience
Department/Unit: CARU (Cardiology Admit/Recovery Unit)
The CARU (Cardiac Admission & Recovery Unit) nursing position at Cincinnati Children's is a specialized role that involves providing comprehensive care to a diverse population undergoing various cardiac procedures. Here is an overview of the key aspects of the position:
Nurses in this role may work in CTOR Prep, supporting preoperative functions (PATs and Preops) for the cardiac operating room.
Operating Hours and Availability:
CARU's current operating hours are Monday to Friday from 0600-2130.
The unit is closed on holidays, weekends, and overnights.
There is currently no on-call requirement.
Populations Served:
CARU nurses provide care to a diverse group of patients, including those undergoing:
Pre & post Cardiac Cath procedures
PAT & Pre CTOR (Cardiac Operating Room) processes
Post CTOR for outpatient procedures (e.g., generator replacements, wire removals, etc.)
Pre & post EP (Electrophysiology) procedures
Pre, intra, & post-sedate echocardiograms
Pre, intra, & post MRI (including General Anesthesia MRI)
Intra & post minimally invasive procedures (e.g., LPs, Chest Tubes)
Infusion therapy for patients’ post-cardiac transplant
Level of Acuity:
The level of acuity in CARU is commensurate with both ambulatory and acute care settings, reflecting the diverse range of procedures and interventions provided.
CARU is slated for renovation beginning in Summer 2024. This renovation will include the addition of a General Anesthesia Procedure Room, a Sedate ECHO room, a Reading Room, conversion of semi-private rooms into private rooms, and expansion of waiting/registration space.
CARU currently consists of 7 private prep/recovery rooms and 2 semi-private rooms.

Expected Starting Salary Range: 34.50 - 43.54
SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Nurses who have graduated from a college level nursing program and have passed a national licensing exam.
