AGENCY DESCRIPTION:
Agency on Aging Area 4 (AAA4) is a Joint Powers Authority (a Public Agency with non-profit status) formed between the counties of Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba to provide a system of supportive services for persons 60 years of age and over. AAA4 funds and monitors a variety of programs for older adults in a seven-county planning and service area with funding received under the Older Americans Act. AAA4 is one of 33 area agencies in California designated by the State to develop, coordinate, and fund programs designed to help older persons maintain their health and independence.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Volunteer Program expands the effectiveness of all Agency activities by developing and sustaining day-to-day volunteer support for ongoing AAA4 programs, outreach events, special projects, and unique initiatives designed to enhance the Agency’s presence in the community and its ability to provide services and support to the aging population in the seven-county service area.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Program Manager for the particular program seeking volunteers, the Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting volunteers to support delivery of the program’s services to the clients and communities served by it. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting volunteers, onboarding volunteers, organizing their schedules to assure adequate coverage for all the program’s commitments, participating in training of volunteers, and providing ongoing recognition of the volunteers’ contributions.
EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts recruitments intended to reach diverse groups within the community
- Interacts with older adults, vendors, staff, and volunteers on the phone and in person
- Interviews, screens, and schedules volunteers
- Provides volunteer orientation and training
- Provides ongoing supervision of volunteers to assure that they are knowledgeable and are capable of achieving the expectations and standards of conduct required of the volunteer position
- Maintains a program of ongoing communication with, support for, and recognition of volunteers to assure that they feel valued
- In collaboration with the Human Resources Manager and the Program Manager, handles routine complaints, arbitrates disputes, and resolves grievances of volunteers
- Collects assessment data relating to volunteer satisfaction and quality assurance
JOB CHARACTERISTICS:
The Volunteer Coordinator must be highly self-motivated and able to motivate others. The Volunteer Coordinator must be an enthusiastic, optimistic person who enjoys a high level of contact with and responsibility for individuals who are donating their time and talents to advancing the mission of the Agency. The Volunteer Coordinator must be outgoing, articulate, persuasive, and skilled at encouraging others to accomplish a variety of tasks without financial incentives.
