Dual Role Position: Lead Horse Handler and Volunteer/ Horse Handler Coordinator
Part-time: minimum of 3 weekdays a week, each shift is approximately 6 hours. 1-2 additional hours a week of volunteer coordination can be done at home.

OT OuTdoors is seeking to hire an active, friendly, self-driven staff member who is interested in a long-term (2 years minimum) part-time position working with horses, patients, and occupational therapists who utilize the horse as one of their many treatment tools (we also use our sensory-motor gym, pool and more). Horse Handler
· Horse experience preferred.
· Work intimately with 3 well-trained and behaved, healthy horses.
· Interact, under therapist supervision, with patients ages 2-35, the majority are children, with a variety of special needs spanning from minor coordination and sensory processing disorders to more complex coordination, sensory processing and cognitive disorders.
· Prepare the horse for the therapy session by grooming, tacking, and warming up with leading, lunging or long lining (typically one horse is utilized per hour).
· Lead horse during portion of therapy session via in-hand leading and long lining.
· Take direction from the therapist regarding the precise horse movement required during the treatment session.
· Collaborate with therapist in selecting horse equipment and tack as it pertains to the patient.
· Collaborate with the therapist in selecting patient equipment as it pertains to proper fit on the horse.
· Advise the therapist of any safety concerns and make final horse safety and behavior decisions.
· Evaluate and desensitize the horse to new therapy equipment, props and activities incorporated into treatment sessions.
· Participate in training the horses in providing medical quality movement needed for therapy sessions.
· Minor daily facility maintenance (mucking pens and arena, keeping tack shed and yard clean and tidy).
· Grading arena once a week.
· Feeding horses hay and grain.
Volunteer and Horse Handler Coordinator
Schedule
· Schedule volunteers and HH and communicate re-schedule.
· Enter confirmed schedule into Google Calendar.
· Manage, confirm, and enter shift coverage on calendar.
· Schedule potential new hire shadows in coordination with owner.
· Schedule new hire training
Train new volunteers and HH staff
Manage
· Delegate special tasks in collaboration with owner.
· Create, prep for and manage no horse day projects assignments in collaboration with therapist.
· Eventually interview and hire volunteers and HH in conjunction with owner.
Job Types: Part-time, Internship
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 18 per week
