Ranked nationally two years in a row as a “Best Places to Work” by Modern Healthcare, this growing northern California nonprofit healthcare organization is seeking an experienced and innovative Volunteer Coordinator who is squarely focused on collaboration, relationship management, and education. YoloCares (formerly Yolo Hospice) is Joint Commission accredited and the only organization in the Sacramento region to be accepted into the esteemed National Partnership for Hospice Innovation.
Summary:
As a key ambassador for YoloCares, the Volunteer Coordinator will function as a public liaison to community and civic organizations, churches and synagogues, and other community groups to recruit and train volunteers and educate the public about YoloCares. In this role, he/she will be responsible for coordination and supervision of the services provided by all volunteers within the volunteer department including, but not limited to, patient-care volunteers, client volunteers, administrative support, fundraising & outreach, and Volunteer Department program partnerships.


VOLUNTEER SERVICES
1. Serve as one of YoloCares’ pivotal relationship coordinator by successfully implementing strategies to recruit, screen, train, orient, and supervise volunteers.
2. Coordinates with all YoloCares departments on volunteer needs and placement.
3. Assigns patient care volunteers to patients/families and monitors interactions, services, documentation, and other components of volunteer activity.
4. Assures that each patient care volunteer’s activities are provided in accordance with the patient’s individualized Interdisciplinary (IDT) Plan of Care.
5. Regularly provides emotional support, on-going education, and recognition of dedicated services for patient care volunteers.
6. Provides guidance and support to volunteers on any identified performance issues throughout the year.
7. Works with the Human Resources department to ensure compliance of background checks, immunization and other related policies and procedures related placement and orientation.
8. Works with all YoloCares Departments to integrate patient care volunteer services and/or administration support services when appropriate.
9. Conduct on-going community education and serve as a lead spokesperson for YoloCares.
10. Assures that patient-care volunteer hours far exceed the 5% Medicare requirement, meaning that we need to have patient-care volunteer hours that equal or exceed 5% of YoloCares’ paid clinical staff hours.
11. Generates monthly reports of volunteer hours worked and related cost savings.



PROFESSIONAL & TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT
1. Attends in-service provided by YoloCares to enhance knowledge of hospice care. Provides Executive Director with feedback concerning timely topics for education and discussion.
2. Identifies personal education needs and seeks formal programs or participates in professional educational activities or seeks other avenues (i.e. reading articles/books etc.) to meet these needs.
3. Develops a leadership style, which demonstrates teamwork, constructive time management as well as effective conflict resolution, problem solving and delegation.
4. Participates in the evaluation(s) of own performance by identifying strengths and weaknesses and by developing a plan to improve areas of weakness.
5. Participates with colleagues/IDT members in identification and discussion of ethical conflicts, which arise in caring for terminal patients and their families.
6. Participates in professional organizations and networks with other Volunteer Coordinators.
7. Consistently meet all standards of conduct delineated in the Yolo Hospice Integrity Program:
Standards of Conduct: A Guide to Compliance and Ethics.

Requirements:

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in 3 of the following related fields:
a. Office and/or administration – 2 years
b. Management – 2 years
c. Customer Service – 2 years
d. Personal Assistant – 2 years
2. Bilingual – Spanish preferred but not required.
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Excellent organizational skills.
5. Ability to support group rapport and effectiveness.
6. Ability to maintain a work environment based on mutual respect.
7. Ability to manage and assist in further developing a work group of volunteers.
8. Experience and expertise in group facilitation and participatory training.
9. Ability to identify own professional strengths and weaknesses and to engage in activities designed to enhance effectiveness.
10. Motivation to engage in healthy self-care activities to counteract job stresses.
11. Computer literacy in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
12. Ability to successfully meet agency background screening requirements.
13. Training in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) preferred
14. Executive Assistant or calendar management experience
15. Youthful Energy
PHYSICAL & OTHER JOB SPECIFICATIONS
1. Able to hear, speak, read, write, and type well enough to perform required job duties.
2. Able to lift 20 pounds without physical problems.
3. If driving on YoloCares business, must have a valid California driver’s license and state-required automobile insurance.
4. Must be willing and able to flex hours to meet occasional appropriate business needs during evenings or weekends.
