Visiting Assistant Professor - Latin American, Latino, & Iberian Studies - 000907

The Department of Latin American, Latino, & Iberian Studies at the University of Richmond is accepting applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor. Responsibilities will include teaching three course units per semester according to the needs of the program, which include teaching at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, from beginning Spanish language courses to specialized senior seminars. This is a non-tenure track appointment, annually renewable for up to three years, contingent upon performance, budget, and continued need.

A Ph.D. in Latin American Studies or a related field is required by the start date of August 20, 2024. Particular consideration will be given to candidates who investigate and can teach undergraduate courses in Latin American Indigenous Studies/Indigeneity or Afro-Latin/o Studies. Related expertise in Luso-Brazilian Studies is desirable.

LALIS is a diverse community devoted to the study of language, literature, and culture as integral to understanding the human experience. Our expanding curriculum, which includes courses in languages, literatures, linguistics, and community-based learning, as well as film, theater, performance, translation, cultural, and Latino studies, allows students to explore an array of topics from areas of the world where Spanish and Portuguese (among other languages) are spoken. Active engagement with the intellectual life of the department is expected by mentoring students and attending meetings and events.

Selected applicants will be asked to submit syllabi of two courses already taught and/or potential courses, with 2-4 total sample assignments. They may be asked, at a later date, to provide the names and contact information for two references who may be asked to submit letters of recommendation.
