TITLE: Vice President, Global Safety & Security
DEPARTMENT: Global Safety & Security
REPORTS TO: Senior Vice President, Public Affairs and Chief of Staff
LOCATION: New York City or Washington, D.C. (NYC preferred)
GRADE/CLASS: Grade K, Exempt, Non-Union

Since its founding, ADL has played the leading role in the protecting Jewish communities across the country from incidents of Antisemitism and defamation, as well as responding and tracking those incidents.

ADL Global Security leads the planning and deployment of strategies and programs to support the safety and security of all ADL staff, physical offices, and public events around the world. In the current threat environment, and in the context of the highest recorded number of Antisemitic incidents in the history of the United States, the Global Security team is critical to the success of ADL’s mission.


PRIMARY FUNCTION:

ADL is seeking an experienced, committed, and collaborative executive to set the vision and lead execution for security risk management. The Vice President of Global Security will be responsible for supporting ADL’s mission by protecting its people, assets, and operations. The VP will oversee the safety and security of all ADL staff, physical offices, and public events. Specifically, the VP will develop, implement, and/or mature key corporate security functions including but not limited to physical security operations, technical security, executive protection, travel security, event security, threat management, protective intelligence, business continuity, security incident response, crisis management, insider threat, security training and awareness, and security investigations.

The VP of Global Security will oversee a small but exceptional team of security practitioners and professionals. The VP will both lead the Global Security team and directly support execution on critical tasks. ADL is a mission-focused non-profit that expects every leader to be just as willing to “do” as they are willing to “lead”.

The VP will be a key member of ADL’s Senior Staff team and lead the organization’s agenda on security matters. The VP will advise the CEO and the executive leadership team on security risks and will present strategies for managing security risk at the enterprise level.

Responsibilities:
Primary:
  • Lead security for ADL globally.
  • Clarify and delegate security roles and responsibilities for the Global Security team and for key leaders and stakeholders.
  • Design a long-term security organizational structure and triage resource needs.
  • Develop training and awareness campaigns to build a culture of security at ADL.
  • Develop and implement multi-year and annual operating plans. Collaborate with ADL senior leadership and key internal partners to shape a creative and pragmatic vision, structure, and strategy for long-term organizational planning.
  • Evaluate, select, and manage key vendors, including security guards, protective services, security technology integrators, and others, and hold them accountable to documented standards and agreements.
  • Develop and implement the strategy, governance, and execution of physical security operations, technical security, executive protection, travel security, event security, threat management, protective intelligence, business continuity, security incident response, crisis management, insider threat, security training and awareness, and security investigations.
  • Establish qualitative and quantitative metrics to measure the maturity and impact of the Global Security team.
  • Serve as the senior most incident commander and crisis manager for security-related incidents at ADL.
  • Recruit, engage, develop, and retain superior talent. Develop and maintain a culture that is consistent with ADL’s values and brings out the best in people, allowing them to perform at the highest possible level.
  • Advance efforts to develop an innovative analytical architecture and threat assessments while exploring new partnerships with data and technology providers.
  • Network, establish and maintain partnerships with industry, academia, civil society organizations, government, and other key stakeholders/influencers.
  • Own the development and growth of diverse talent on the team by directing challenging assignments, making space for creativity, and ensuring in supportive mentoring and coaching. Build a collaborative team. Advance DEI efforts.
  • Secure grants and other sources of funding. Collaborate with ADL Development teams to prepare proposals. Assist with ongoing donor stewardship.
Qualifications:
Skills:
  • Significant familiarity and experience with security, law enforcement, and threat trends. Extensive knowledge of combating extremism, Jewish community security, Israel national security, threats emanating from extremist and foreign terrorist groups and understanding of prevailing threats and ability to keep apprised of relevant emerging trends.
  • Ability to use the aforementioned understanding to develop and execute a proactive security posture and to oversee research, program, and training teams in support of ADL’s mission.
  • Effective leadership and management skills. Able to bring out the best in others. Able to build and manage a distributed team across time zones. Ability to prioritize and focus.
  • Exemplary ability to communicate with experts and senior-level leaders, both within ADL and externally. Highly effective public speaking skills.
  • Excellent organizational communication, program management, and project management skills.
Work Experience:
  • The ideal candidate has at least of experience, including progressively responsible management experience, specifically in law enforcement, national security, homeland security, corporate security, intelligence, analysis, and program/project management.
  • Strong mentoring, coaching experience with a team that has diverse levels of expertise.
  • Have worked in or closely with foreign governments, global Jewish communities, international civil society organizations – preferred.
  • Experience building security programs and managing budgets in non-profits or the private sector.
  • Experience developing business strategies and advocating for security needs to non-security executives and leaders.
  • Experience working in federated and/or decentralized organizational structures.
Education and Certifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Advanced degree (MA, JD) preferred.
  • ASIS International Certified Protection Professional preferred.
  • DRI Certified Business Continuity Professional preferred.
Other:
  • A strong connection to ADL’s mission and work.
  • Deep understanding on relevant diplomatic, political and policy issues related to global security in all manifestations of global extremism and hate.
  • Must be willing to travel extensively and represent ADL.
Work Environment:
  • ADL COVID-19 Protocol (updated periodically): ADL is adhering to public health guidance regarding COVID-19. ADL will require that all employees are vaccinated with exceptions for medical and religious accommodations. ADL is requiring proof of vaccination. ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.
Compensation:
  • This position has a salary range of $150,000 to $200,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, NY. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
