Bollinger Motors is seeking a Vehicle Test Engineer who will be responsible for designing vehicle level test procedures and creating judgment criteria to assess test results in order to validate vehicle design requirements. This position requires a talented engineer with passion for and experience with electric vehicles in a practical, multidisciplinary environment. This position reports to Vehicle Test Engineering Manager. This is an in-person role at the company’s Oak Park, MI headquarters.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


  • Design and conduct durability and reliability tests to assess the long-term reliability and robustness of vehicle components, including chassis, suspension, and powertrain systems.
  • Design test procedures and judgment criteria to assess vehicle and system performance against design requirements.
  • Design and conduct specialized tests tailored to assess specific vehicle systems such as thermal performance tests, vibration tests, strength and abuse tests, etc.
  • Plan and execute vehicle level dynamic and static test activities per test plans developed in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Instrumentation of test articles including installation of thermocouples (Type J, K and T), video cameras, strain gauges, accelerometers, load transducers, etc.
  • Be responsible for retrieving, storing and analyzing logged data from tests and comparing design specifications.
  • Write detailed test reports recording subjective and objective findings and any issues.
  • Manage all open Issues discovered on test with the responsible Design Engineers until a design countermeasure is achieved and plan for validation by retest, CAE simulation, or other means to close out open issues.
  • Manage test cost, schedule, scope, and risk throughout the program lifecycle and maintain critical path timing.
  • Provide input and engineering analysis to development teams.
  • Work efficiently and in close collaboration with hardware, software, and testing teams.
Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, automotive engineering or related field
  • 2+ years in a similar role in the automotive or electric vehicle industry
  • Experience running and maintaining a variety of vehicle level tests including Structural Durability, Corrosion, Reliability, Strength & Abuse, Water Fording, Coast Down etc.
  • Proficiency in using specialized testing equipment, data acquisition systems, and analysis software including accelerometers, strain gauges, wheel force transducers, Vector CAN tools, etc.
  • Proving ground and on-road / on-track experience preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Willing to travel up to 20% of the time.
