Job description

Description
Hi, We're AppFolio.
We're innovators, changemakers, and collaborators. We're more than just a software company - we're a cloud-based powerhouse that creates products to make our customers' lives easier. We're revolutionizing the way people do business, and we want your ideas, your enthusiasm, and your passion to help us keep on innovating.
We love where we work, and you can, too.
AppFolio is looking for a User Experience Designer to join our fast-paced team working to bring the power of well-designed SaaS to the commercial and community association management space. The property management industry serves all different types of properties from residential, to commercial, to community associations. You will play a key role in ensuring that AppFolio customers can effortlessly manage commercial properties and community associations on our platform. Your work will directly impact their ability to deliver exceptional experiences in their communities as they provide retail, office, and warehouse space and serve the growing number of community associations in the U.S.
The UX Designer is a dedicated member of a small, cross functional scrum team and is primarily responsible for understanding root customer problems and prototyping and validating design solutions made in collaboration with other team members. An evangelist for user-centered design, this individual has a unique talent and passion for translating complex tasks into simple interactions, driving ease of use as our key competitive advantage.
The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, knowledgeable and eager to apply Agile and Lean UX techniques, comfortable in a fast-moving organization, excited to collaborate with Software Engineers, QA Engineers, UX Designers, and Product Managers to build revolutionary software solutions.
Responsibilities:
  • Re-envision how we can serve commercial and community association managers better within an existing, complex software and support the team in delivering quick wins to our customers
  • Obsessively learn the product, our users, and their needs to craft the experience of the commercial and community association space
  • Be the voice and advocate of the customer, understanding their context and processes, and communicating their needs to the team through data and insights
  • Understand complex design challenges by participating alongside engineering, QA, and product in LeanUX-inspired activities such as design studios and story mapping
  • Ongoing, close collaboration with team members during each sprint, including impromptu discussions and brainstorming activities, as well as pairing with engineers on design feasibility
  • Supporting the team as needed with wireframes, flow diagrams, rapid prototypes and mock-ups to efficiently communicate and validate design ideas
  • Facilitate user research, in collaboration with the team, to validate ideas and prototypes, as well as conduct ongoing usability testing of the working software
  • Evangelize a cohesive User Experience via the consistent use of UI patterns from our design system

Qualifications:
  • Strong technical aptitude, product common sense, and curiosity combined with a genuine love for products, people, and User Experience
  • A portfolio of software design that demonstrates your design process, skills and creativity
  • Experience with a variety of UX deliverables (wireframes, user flows, mockups, prototypes, etc.), paired with a keen sense of when to choose the right tool(s) to communicate the design
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of Agile UX and Lean UX methodologies and experience working in a highly collaborative, agile environment is a huge plus
  • Advanced proficiency with design and prototyping tools, preferably Figma
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills: both synchronously and asynchronously.
  • Passionate about learning and able to build subject matter expertise quickly
  • Knowledge of the operations and processes of commercial real estate and/or community association management is preferred, but not required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in User Experience design
