Job Summary
Under general supervision and direction of the Assistant Director and Project Director, and in collaboration with the Full-Time Project Advisor; administers, coordinates and implements Program services, in-person and virtually, to assigned high school participants of the Upward Bound Program (“Program”). This position works in alignment and collaboration with the Full-Time Project Advisor and Assistant Director, by ensuring Program services are rendered to ninth through twelfth grade participants at Roosevelt High School, Garfield High School, Huntington Park High School and Franklin High Schools.
Schedule
Monday-Friday 8AM-4:30PM; Some evenings and weekends as needed. Participation in the 6 Week Summer Program also required which may include evenings, schedules for the 6 weeks to be determined closer to program dates.
Essential Job Duties
• Supports the Project Director in administering, coordinating and implementing Program services at four (4) target high schools; including, but not limited to: coordinating tutoring services; assisting in secondary school course selection; preparing and registering for college entrance examinations and completing college applications; applying for financial aid; seeking and applying for internship opportunities; facilitating workshops on career and self-development, financial/economic literacy and resources for post-secondary education
• Conducts the outreach, recruitment, verification, and selection of eligible target high school participants
• Advises and monitors high school graduation, college admissions/acceptance, and financial aid requirements for twelfth grade participants
• Facilitates the academic and career planning for Program participants
• Assesses, manages, and implements Annual Academic Plans and rigorous secondary school program of study (a-g requirements) for assigned Program participants
• Provides participants with information on available dual enrollment programs at their high school and local community colleges
• Coordinates tutoring services to integrate reading, writing, and mathematics to address areas of need and support in the passage of Smarter Balance Summative Assessment (SBSA) in collaboration with the Full-Time Project Advisor and Assistant Director
• Schedules, organizes, and chaperones all educational, cultural, and career related field trips for Program participants
• In collaboration with the Full-Time Project Advisor, ensures material is prepared for daily activities/events
• Develops positive rapport with participants while maintaining a professional relationship
• Maintains effective relationships with school administrators, counselors, teachers, parents and community agencies
• Helps create and drive effective communication, a cooperative team environment, and a positive attitude toward students and Program staff.
• Provides reports on assigned target high school participants’ academic status to the Assistant Director and Project Director
• Inputs student information i.e. grades, attendance and service contacts in the BluMen database system
• Supports the Project Director and Program Manager in maintaining and ensuring accuracy of participants’ data in files and database in compliance with the U.S. Department of Education Guidelines in the preparation of the Annual Performance Report and other Program related reports
• Supports in the planning, development and implementation of the Summer Instructional Component. Respective responsibilities will be defined upon the design of the Summer Instructional Component (includes residing at the college dormitories during residency component)
• Remains aware of student special circumstances (i.e health concerns, emotional difficulties, academic programs, etc.)
• Attends appropriate TRIO conferences and/or professional development trainings as required
• Ensures all forms of written communication (i.e., letters, memorandums, e-mails, etc.) for parents, participants and public meet the TELACU Corporate Communication Group Standards
• Serves as a constructive and positive role model for personal behavior, academic pursuits, and adherence to Program policies
• Receives student feedback about the Program and channels feedback to the appropriate Program personnel
• Develops, coordinates and implements other Program related projects as assigned
• Must be flexible to work evenings and weekends and travel as required
• Must receive a favorable clearance report from background check, Live Scan fingerprinting and tuberculosis test
Experience & Education:
• Senior standing college student majoring in Education, Sociology, and/or Counseling or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum two years’ experience administering, coordinating and implementing direct services to the target population or three years’ experience in academic advising at the high school level.
• Knowledge in rigorous secondary school programs of study (e.g. requirements) admission and application requirements of postsecondary school institutions, preparation and registration for college entrance exams, financial aid process and financial/economic literacy.
• Must be familiar with the career and self-development needs of the target population being served.
• Must have public speaking experience
• Must be bilingual and fluent in English/Spanish (written and oral).
• Experience within a university/college EOP, TRIO Program or other student support services program, preferred.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of first-generation and/or low-income students; understanding of cross-cultural values regarding education; and the ability to establish rapport with the target population.
• Valid First Aid and CPT certification required.
Computer & Software Skills
• Strong working proficiency of Microsoft Suite, Zoom, and other virtual platforms

Travel:
• Frequent local travel
• Must have a valid California Driver’s License, proof of current vehicle insurance and a driving record that meets TELACU Industries insurer’s criteria; must be able to use own vehicle in the course of work
Other Duties:
• Attends staff, departmental, and required meetings.
• Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
• Conducts presentations for school personnel, students, parents, and community representatives.
• Required during the Summer Instructional Component to dorm 5 to 7 days a week for up to 5 weeks at a university campus in Southern California.

Makes sound decisions and sets goals based on available information and evaluates situations and requirements to plan and adjust work accordingly.

Must be able to work independently and without direct supervision; able to make decisions about the severity of variable situations and evaluate the most appropriate response; able to make appropriate decisions related to customer requests.
Work Environment & Exposures:
Position may require occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, vibration and loud noise levels.
Will be exposed to varying weather conditions, soil, pollen, grass and plant materials and fertilizer while working; will be exposed to cleaning solutions of home strength; may be exposed to industrial strength solutions for pest control, paints or solvents.
EQUIPMENT USE: Computer, keyboard, mouse, phone, copy machine, fax machine, laminating machine.
COVID-19 Vaccination:
Must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated by the first day of work. A copy of the CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card must be submitted to Human Resources.
