Upper School Drama Faculty (Seattle, WA)
Full Time (1.0 FTE) Salary/Exempt

The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Upper School team as an Upper School 9th - 12th Drama Faculty member. We are seeking a candidate who is able to support the school's mission of diversity and inclusion and who has a background that demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of intercultural fluency. The Upper School Drama Faculty member reports to the Upper School Director and works closely with students and families, as well as Upper School Faculty and Staff, while also being an active member of the school's Performing Arts Department. This position will be responsible for teaching two sections of drama classes and directing two theater productions each year, in addition to hosting a student advisory group and teaching in our three-week experiential program (Cascade).
While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks listed below:

  • Create and sustain a positive classroom culture, based on the mission and values of the school
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
  • Possess the ability and skills to successfully teach drama to 9th-12th grade students
  • Possess the expertise, ability and interest to lead all Upper School drama productions
  • Value and incorporate diverse perspectives in daily interactions and within the curriculum
  • Establish classroom expectations that create a safe and comfortable environment for all students
  • Collaborate and work effectively with the school's Performing Arts Department
  • Create and sustain effective family partnerships, for example: communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom news via formal fall/spring conferences, written communications, and school portal
  • Observe/evaluate/assess students' development and maintain accurate records regarding student progress and areas of growth
  • Attend school related events outside the scheduled school day
  • Participate actively and with curiosity in school/division/department/committee meetings on Wednesdays until 5:15 pm, as well as student community gatherings during the school day
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of ten Upper School students, monitoring their overall well-being and serving as the primary point of contact for their parents
  • Enrich or modify lessons, curriculum, materials and resources as needed to meet differentiated student needs and varying levels of progress inside and outside of the classroom
  • Communicate openly, timely and supportively with students, staff, parents and other stakeholders regarding student achievement and progress
  • Utilize technology to support student success (e.g. Google Docs)

Experience and Professional Competencies:
  • Experience teaching Drama is required, with 3 or more years preferred
  • Experience teaching Drama to Upper School students is preferred
  • A bachelor's degree in Performing Arts or Education is required
  • Demonstrated excellence as a Drama educator, with a passion for sharing that with Upper School students is required
  • A demonstrated commitment to professional development and growth in this area is required

  • A commitment to completing work in a timely and thorough manner while being conscientious about assignments and deadlines
  • Have proficient skills in the use of technology: including, but not limited to, Microsoft Suite, Google Drive, and Outlook

Additional Requirements:
  • Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date)
  • Meet the school's standards when completing two separate background screenings

Compensation/Benefit Information for this position:
  • Salary Range: $56,836 - $102,824 (based on years of full-time, lead teaching experience)
  • Faculty employees with a Master's degree, PhD and/or National Certification may be eligible for additional compensation
