Leave Replacement - Upper School Physics Teacher

The Northwest School seeks an experienced Upper School Physics Teacher who will teach three sections of Physics to 12th grade students, from April through mid-June 2024. This is a 0.75 FTE limited appointment position. We anticipate that we will hire for a permanent opening in the science department for the 2024-25 academic year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

• Teach three sections of Physics to 12th grade students (part-time).  

• Coordinate curricula with other science teachers and grade level teachers. 

• Co-teach a two-week immersive, cross-disciplinary “Summit” course at the end of the school year.  

• Participate fully in the life of the school which includes collaborating effectively and collegially with a teaching team, grade-level, and department; engage regularly in formal, ongoing professional development beyond school based in-service; support colleagues and the school by substituting for absent teachers; participate in meetings, committees, and community gatherings; and know, understand, and uphold the mission, philosophy and values of the school.   

Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the schools mission, values, and philosophy, especially related to diversity, equity, and inclusion; environmental sustainability, and global perspective.

A bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

Demonstrated success with culturally responsive pedagogy.

Experience teaching a diverse student body through a social justice lens.

Preferred Qualifications:

A master's degree and five or more years of teaching experience is preferred.
