Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in north Seattle, Washington, is currently recruiting for an Upper School Spanish Teacher to teach four sections of Upper School Spanish. Lakeside is seeking an energetic and creative educator to help develop the students' creative minds, healthy bodies, and ethical spirits needed to contribute wisdom, compassion, and leadership to a global society. This position would start with opening meetings in August, 2024. Applications will be reviewed starting in January, 2024 and continue until the position is filled.
Responsibilities
The world language program at Lakeside Upper School is rigorous with an emphasis on oral proficiency at every level. We pride ourselves on being a diverse team of colleagues who are creative, collaborative, and constantly exploring best practices for inclusive and culturally responsive language pedagogy. In this role, you will join Upper School faculty committed to providing the best educational experience possible for our 9th - 12th grade students. Specific responsibilities include:
  1. Teaching a diverse student body with varying experiences and exposure to language instruction with an emphasis on building oral proficiency, promoting students' ability to read and write in the language, and exploring the culture and history of the Spanish-speaking world.
  2. Teaching four classes, typically with 2 preps.
  3. Providing academic support outside of the classroom for students with different learning styles and strengths.
  4. Collaborating and having fun, participating in the work of the language department on innovative, inclusive, and equitable curriculum development.
  5. Pursuing professional development opportunities around pedagogy and best assessment practices.
  6. Writing comment evaluations of students at mid-semester and end of each semester.
  7. Attending regular department and faculty meetings.
  8. Serving as an advisor for a small group of students.
  9. Participating in the life of the school community, admission events, faculty meetings, grade-level meetings, and general engagement with student life.

Requirements and Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in foreign language pedagogy or a related field.
  2. Native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English.
  3. Experience with immersion settings using communicative and task-based pedagogical practices.
  4. Experience teaching at a high-school level with experience of teaching upper level courses (e.g., related to conversation, current events, literature, film, music, etc.).
  5. Create an inclusive learning environment where all students feel seen, valued and heard
  6. Collaborate on a teaching team.
  7. Use Spanish for 95% or more of all class periods.
  8. Use Spanish for authentic communication with colleagues and students outside of class.
  9. Be comfortable working with technology to present daily lessons and leverage online learning platforms for tracking assignments and grades (e.g. experience with Canvas is a plus, but experience is not required).
  10. Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.
  11. Satisfactory completion of three criminal background checks

Salary and Benefits
Salary Range:$68,225 - $119,165 based upon experience and education.
