Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The UNCG Police Department is committed to providing the highest level of campus law enforcement services available. Our officers and employees are highly trained and dedicated individuals whose personal mission is to make sure campus community’s experience at UNCG is not only memorable and successful, but also safe. The police department offers these and other programs to help our Spartans achieve a safe and secure community.

Position Summary:

This position works with the UNCG Police Department’s logistics, evidence, and records sections; requiring specialized knowledge of the department’s operations to include policies and procedures. Some of the important responsibilities include planning, organizing and managing daily operations; program policy and procedure design and implementation; and associated business functions. Some of this work also includes marketing these areas and pushing the goals and objectives forward for the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Key Responsibility:

Logistical Support

Essential Tasks:

  • Work with department members to ensure equipment is appropriate, safe, and maintained in good working order.
  • Explaining policy and procedure to: a. Vehicle maintenance shops and private vendors that repair or equip the department vehicles; b. Officers and uniform suppliers about how the police department will be handling uniform order.
  • Probing for details in order to assist police officers in determining why a computer program is not responding or working properly, or why a vehicle malfunction may be occurring.
  • Presenting various options when no one answer is clear.
  • Identifying underlying root of customer problems when they are poorly communicated by determining the actual reason for equipment malfunction in vehicles when vaguely explained.
  • Recommending and implementing procedural changes to improve quality of service by: a. Having officers verify the equipment issued to them by requesting a signature for documentation; b. Providing vendors with copies of uniform and equipment requests to improve accuracy of orders placed.
  • Using interpersonal skills to change the perspective of unhappy clients or customers on a frequent basis by first focusing directly on the concerns of the customer or client to determine the trouble by listening to them. When needed, answer any questions to clarify any inaccuracies that may exist, then ask if there are any thoughts that the person might have for improvements, and lastly close with a positive note on how their input and loyalty have been valued.
  • Resolving customer problems with reliance on network resources, program knowledge, analytical skill, and research of past actions.
  • Serve as liaison between the university and external service providers when scheduling repairs to vehicles and ordering uniforms and supplies.
Key Responsibility:

Maintaining Inventory and Placing Orders

Essential Tasks:

  • Maintain supply inventory and ordering supplies.
  • Complete orders for signature approval.
  • Complete equipment inventory.
  • Work with vendors on prices & delivery dates.
  • Research sources for specialized equipment.
  • Process items for surplus.
  • Serve as liaison between Police Department and external vendors.
  • Consistently look for ways to reduce budget spending without reducing our uniform or equipment performance, reliability, or product quality.
  • Receiving and processing uniform/equipment request forms and completing the order for these requests once approved.

Reviewing and Processing Departmental Forms

Essential Tasks:

  • Complete routine reports to include: a. Monthly vehicle mileage reports; b. Quarterly inventory. reports; c. Quarterly building inspections.
  • Complete personnel documentation (ex. uniforms & equipment).
  • Checking daily data or forms for accuracy of vehicle mileage, vehicle maintenance, and vehicle checklists.

  • Learn the following tasks to fill in as secondary:
    • Retrieve temporary evidence from temp lockers.
    • Ensure that evidence & money are properly packaged.
    • Ensure that evidence is properly logged and entered into RMS.
    • Research case dispositions and other related information involving the classification and disposition of property items
    • Prepare all reports concerning the evidence/property control function.
    • Obtains court orders and when needed.
    • Maintain and coordinate all lost and found property that is submitted to the PD.

    • Reviews records requests.
    • Review reports entered into RMS for information pertaining to state property and NIBRS.
    • Ensures that the department stays compliant with all university and state requirements pertaining to records retention.

    • Acts as liaison between UNCG Police Department and outside community members.
