Position Summary:
Coordinates and provides accurate, consistent treatment procedures as ordered by the residents attending physician and to monitor current practices and procedures within the facility. Work within the Infection Control Program and its activities. These duties should be in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be directed by the Administrator and or the Director of Nursing to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care and safety can be maintained at all times.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Documents the resident's condition and nursing needs
  • Accurately and promptly implements physicians' orders
  • Assigns nursing care to team members in accordance with the resident's needs and the person's capabilities and qualifications
  • Performs treatments for assigned resident's and documents that treatment as required by Regency, state and federal regulations
  • Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel
  • Assist physicians with special tests and procedures within the scope of state specified Nursing Practice Act
  • Assure that adequate supplies are available to personnel who perform procedures that involve exposure to blood or body fluids
  • Monitor Nursing service to ensure that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies
  • Ensure that all nursing work areas (i.e. nurse's station, med rooms etc.) are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner
  • Ensure that all resident care rooms, treatment areas, etc., are maintained in a clean and safe manner
  • Participate in the review and revision of care plans and assessments as necessary, but at least quarterly
  • Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of an ongoing Quality Assurance Program for the nursing department as pertaining to Wound Care Management
  • Weekly Skin Audits on all residents
  • Weekly documentation on wound care log and nurses notes, to include measurements, treatments and response to treatment
  • Contact families of residents with skin treatments on a weekly basis with an update
  • Insure Medical Director & Director of Nursing are made aware of wounds that are not responding to treatment weekly
  • Consult with RD, Dietary Manager and PT on complicated wound healing
  • Oversee the facility Infection Control Program, to insure each infection is monitored and follow-up labs as ordered
  • Prepare the monthly infection control report with tracking and trends
  • Infection control report done on all infection
  • Ensures that supplies are utilized economically and that equipment is clean and maintained in a safe manner
  • Reports and records pertinent observations and reactions regarding residents
  • Coordinates nursing care of residents when scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments
  • Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in residents
  • Performs other tasks as assigned
  • Promotes interpersonal relationships and develops staff morale
  • Answer resident call lights and ensure that all residents are checked frequently
  • Any suspected abuse must be reported to the Director of Nursing/Administrator immediately

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Requirements and Experience:
  • Graduate of accredited LPN/LVN School of Nursing or RN School of Nursing
  • Valid RN, LPN, or LVN license from the State of Alabama
  • Valid CPR certification
  • One year experience in nursing preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Skilled in motivating and directing the workforce
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the residents and their family members, and at all levels of the facility
  • Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
