Transportation Planner

• ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Conduct field reconnaissance for transportation projects
• Conduct available data research, planning policy and regulation research, and project background information review in order to gather project related information, identify problems and potential solutions, and evaluate potential alternatives.
• Perform data collection and compilation, and preliminary analysis on data and maps in traffic related projects such as arterial highways, express lanes, specialized toll roads, and transit facilities under the guidance of the Lead Transportation Planner.
• Conduct socio-economic data analyses and future year forecasting for transportation projects
• Conduct traffic operations studies, traffic safety studies, project development and environmental studies
• Prepare and process travel demand model input data including socio-economic data, land use data, roadway network, transit data, and other related data to build regional and statewide travel demand models
• Conduct traffic operation analysis, transit analysis and corridor analysis to estimate project traffic data for existing year conditions, future no-build conditions, and future build alternatives
• Conduct spatial analysis, visualize model input and output data, and create maps
• Assist in development of model applications/tools to enhance the model function and make it more user-friendly
• Enhance traffic safety, efficiency and environment protection on new and existing transportation projects
• Perform duties related to project development and environmental study;
• Prepares reports, correspondence, and other documents;
• Performs other duties as required. Adhere to company marketing requirements by providing timely resume updates and participating in marketing campaigns
• Ensure timely completion of time sheets and expense reports
• Take ownership of personal career development by seeking and providing feedback, seizing opportunities to develop new skills, and setting and pursuing personal goals

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in urban/transportation planning, transportation engineering, civil engineering, or related major
• Programming skills such as R and Python are strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of transportation and traffic engineering/planning principles and practices
