Job Description
This position is open to current and rising high school seniors enrolled at a Stafford County Public School in partnership with the Work Based Learning Program.
This is a paid internship at $15.00/hour.
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Transportation Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting our transportation planning and analysis efforts by utilizing GIS software to develop, maintain, and analyze spatial data related to transportation infrastructure, traffic patterns, and other related factors.
Examples of Duties
* Assist with the development and maintenance of transportation-related spatial databases, including road networks, transit systems, and other transportation infrastructure layers
* Utilize GIS software to perform spatial analysis of transportation data, including traffic volume, congestion, and travel time studies
* Create maps and other visualizations of transportation data for use in reports and presentations
* Assist with data collection efforts, including supervised fieldwork, data entry, and data processing
* Collaborate with transportation planners and engineers to provide spatial analysis support for planning studies and infrastructure projects
* Contribute to the development and implementation of GIS data and analysis standards and procedures
* Keep up-to-date with advances in GIS technology and software, and identify opportunities for process improvements and innovation
Typical Qualifications
* Strong working knowledge of GIS software, such as ArcGIS or QGIS, and proficiency in spatial analysis techniques
• Ability to work with transportation-related data sources and analysis techniques, such as traffic volume counts and travel time studies
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Supplemental Information
Any combination of education and experience. Must currently be enrolled in or completed a GIS/Geospatial Technology program.
Possession of a driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects and occasional medium work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires reaching, standing, walking, sitting, grasping, and repetitive hand motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
