Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Supervisor or Manager, the GIS intern is responsible for capturing Global Positioning System (GPS) points for asset and facilities; maintaining equipment and processing spatial data; performing data editing and QA tasks; and performs other related duties as required. This position requires working in a variety of weather conditions while performing data collection and field verification to ensure the highest level of data accuracy and integrity.
Specific Responsibilities

• Responsible for conducting field work, collecting GPS data, and updating infrastructure records with accurate information

• Physically locate and obtain visible asset measurements and input attribute information

• Follows established data editing standards and QA workflows

• Evaluate workflows and documentation to help the GIS program adapt to changing needs

• Provide program support, coordinating as-built construction projects, and editing lateral and appurtenances in enterprise geodatabases.

• Perform general research and complete field verification to ensure data is accurately captured in enterprise geodatabases

• Assists in troubleshooting GPS equipment, hardware, and software

• May perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities

• Basic understanding and knowledge of geographic principles and methodology; comprehension of coordinate systems, GPS standards, and map scales

• Ability to read and interpret maps and engineering drawings

• Be a self-motivated and proactive problem solver with the ability to complete tasks as instructed

• Willingness to learn and the ability to stay motivated when faced with challenging or repetitive tasks

• Ability to coordinate and execute simple projects; Possess time management skills with the fortitude to meet deadlines

• Ability to learn and develop technical skills through on the job training
• Strong ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos to manage assignments and tasks

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

• Familiarity with Esri Enterprise software, including, but not limited to ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, FieldMaps or similar software

• Proficiency in Windows OS and Microsoft software products

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma required

• Working toward a bachelor's degree or equivalent in GIS, Geography, or a closely related field

Other Requirements

• Ability and desire to walk on varied terrain outdoors and often as a 1-person crew

• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds of GPS equipment and hardware

• Must have valid CA driver's license
