The role:

The goal of this recruitment is to fill this position at a research analyst 3 level. However, we encourage candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for a research analyst 2 ($3,885 - $5,936) to apply, as we may consider underfilling the position until the selected candidate meets the minimum qualifications for a research analyst 3. Underfill training will not exceed three years.

A day in the life:
  • Manage research projects to develop and design project plans.
  • Develop processes and procedures to integrate count data into Oregon Traffic Monitoring System (OTMS).
  • Perform script writing and import methods to read, process and transfer data from spreadsheets and databases to load into OTMS.
  • Work with partners to develop project plans for automation of traffic count data collection, processing and sharing.
  • Generate analytical reports and documents to explain trends.
  • Retrieve, edit and tabulate data from various databases and files.
  • Research, review and communicate data to internal and external partners.
  • Provide research recommendation to support our modernization of our temporary and permanent traffic count equipment.
  • Represent the traffic monitoring program in meetings and committees to explain and discuss research data.
  • Work is primarily performed in an office setting. In office attendance at least once a week - Hybrid work options available.

Minimum qualifications for a research analyst 3:
Four years of research experience using computerized applications to independently gather, compile, and analyze data and prepare narrative or statistical reports.
OR
A bachelor's degree in any discipline that included six-quarter units in statistics or quantitative analysis methods and procedures, and one year experience using computerized applications to independently gather, compile, and analyze data and prepare narrative or statistical reports;
Minimum qualifications for a research analyst 2 (underfill):
Three years experience as a research assistant comparable to the work of a research analyst 1; OR two years experience using computer applications to help gather, compile, analyze, and report information and statistical data;
OR
A bachelor's degree in any discipline that included six-quarter units in statistics or quantitative analysis methods and procedures.

  • Ability to interpret and identify traffic data from traditional and non-traditional sources.
  • Experience with analyzing large datasets.
  • Experience with SQL database queries and scripting languages like R and python is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of roadside sensors and data collection.
  • Working knowledge of multi-modal count data.

  • Effective 12/01/2023 and payable after 01/01/2024, this position will receive a 6.5% cost of living adjustment salary increase. This increase is not reflected in the salary posted on this announcement.
