Institutional Research and Analytics (IRA) seeks a dynamic Training and Development Specialist, Data & Analytics, a new role instrumental in advancing data literacy throughout the Academic Division. A unit reporting to the Office of the Provost, IRA provides accurate data, reliable information, expert analysis, and guidance on utilizing data to support the University's educational, research, and service objectives .
The Training and Development Specialist, Data & Analytics, will develop and deliver training, instructional content, and coaching in support of our Institutional Data and Analytics (D&A) programming. The specialist will evaluate and develop training strategies that promote user understanding and engagement with University data, data governance practices, and University analytics tools, including University Business Intelligence (Qlik) and the Data Catalog (Alation).
The ideal candidate will understand instructional design principles with an interest in technical training, fostering data literacy, and promoting data and analytics standard practices. The primary audiences for the instructional programming and content will be data and analytics practitioners (e.g., data stewards, data analysts/scientists, BI Developers) and data users (i.e., decision-makers at all levels) internal to the University Academic Division.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with IRA team members, subject matter experts, and institutional colleagues to design and develop learning objectives , curriculum, and training (virtual and on-demand) for IRA D&A programming.
- Coordinate and deliver Training and office hours/support sessions as needed.
- Develop technical training, systems and process documentation, and coursework for University Business Intelligence, Data Catalog, and other tools.
- Stay updated on the latest trends, tools, and techniques in data and analytics education, instructional design, and technology-enhanced learning.
- Collaborate with instructional design and technology teams to integrate D&A learning resources and technologies into the institution's learning ecosystem, including Workday learning management.
- Evaluate and assess training for alignment with IRA data literacy and engagement goals.
- Execute change management by promoting user community data literacy and ensuring data and analytics practitioner buy-in.
- Research, evaluate, and assess learning needs to recommend training courses and content to advance IRA's mission.
- Provide support and coaching to users as necessary.
- Create formal and informal just-in-time training for D&A Community platform.
- Coordinate and host D&A community events as needed.
- Bachelor's degree. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- At least four years of experience in instructional design, development, and delivery.
- Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences.
- Experience in creating written job aids, video demonstrations, and on-demand learning resources.
- Outstanding communication skills
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (including Teams)
Experience with:
- Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate or other eLearning development tools.
- Data literacy training
- Higher education
- Workday learning administration
- Qlik Sense, Data Catalogs or Data Governance Platforms
- Change Management Methodologies ( ProSci , etc.)

The anticipated salary is $75,000 commensurate with education and experience.
This position will not sponsor applicants for work visas. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment .
This is a hybrid position, with mandatory office presence in Charlottesville, VA on specific days (currently Tuesday through Thursday) and the option to work remotely on Monday and Friday.
Position reports to the Data Governance Director, IRA.
