Position summary: JMT's Herndon Transportation Team is seeking a Traffic Project Engineer to be responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments under supervision. The selected candidate will work with a team of experienced project managers and professional engineers on exciting, multimodal transportation projects.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Assist Project Managers with task management responsibilities and proposal preparation
- Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope
- Perform traffic engineering design including signing, pavement marking, traffic signals, roadway, parking, and pathway lighting, and ITS field equipment.
- Perform traffic safety and traffic analysis studies based on the Highway Capacity Manual and associated software such as Synchro and VISSIM.
- Conduct multimodal studies including pedestrian and bicycle studies.
- Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan project
- Perform field reviews of traffic operations
- Perform design computations
- Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
- Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
- Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates for advertisement and construction
- Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines
- Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals
- Prepare proposals as required
- Attend meetings with clients
