Tooling/Process Engineer Responsibilities:
- Provide design for molding feedback and materials recommendations to mechanical engineers to improve the manufacturing feasibility of thermoplastic, thermoset, and metal parts
- Cultivate and manage tooling and molding suppliers in the design, manufacturing and qualification of tooling and molded parts
- travel as needed to ensure successful tool launch
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team in the selection of materials to meet performance, schedule, dimensional and cosmetic requirements
- Lead the design, development, and production of new silicone/plastic injection mold tooling (including optimization trials and DOEs) to meet strict part and assembled device requirements
- Liaison with other Tooling/Process Engineers to share expertise and take advantage of industry advancements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Material Science, Manufacturing Engineering or a relevant technical field
- 5+ years experience with a wide range of molding techniques including multiple of the following: insert molding, 2 shot molding, die casting, transfer molding, liquid silicone molding, and thermoforming
- Experience managing working relationships with international and domestic suppliers to design and build tooling for high volume, tight tolerance consumer electronics products or similar
- Experience guiding teams and suppliers through understanding and use of Molding simulations (Moldflow, etc.), SPC, DOE, and GD&T
- Experience advising designs with a variety of elastomeric thermoplastic (TPU, TPE) and thermoset (silicone, NBR) resins
Preferred Qualifications:
- Multishot molding and insert/overmolding of electronic components
- Experience identifying disruptive technologies in all phases of tool design, tool manufacturing and part creation, and implementing them into production environments
- Experience with post molding operations including but not limited to: deflashing, coating, painting, pad printing, laser engraving, adhesive application
- Knowledge in metal part fabrication methods (die-casting, stamping, forging)
- Experience with tooling quoting, price negotiations, and cost breakdowns
