This position will require the employee to be onsite full-time. The work location will be Bedford, Indiana.
The Role
The Focus Factory Engineering Team excels in maintaining the development, procurement, testing, repair, and maintenance of die-cast tooling for the production departments. This group is unique in that by working with cross functional production teams, vendors and suppliers, the complex problems of high pressure die casting are addressed and maintained into a stable and repeatable manufacturing process. The Specific Purpose of this position is to support the Tooling and Production Team activities and programs. By working with the Die-Cast Tooling Engineers, you will manage die-cast tooling design projects that support Plant Production Departments. You will follow a systematic design engineering process of problem solving, constant innovation, and technology innovations to improve the Focus Factory tooling designs. Specifically responsible for the design, development, and management of production tooling to produce castings for GM.
What You'll Do
- Work collaboratively with Production Teams, Quality Teams, Process Teams, Vendors and Suppliers, Customers, and other support groups
- Demonstrate technical knowledge of foundry tooling and processes and the ability to apply design concepts in a manufacturing environment
- Support Production OEE via manufacturing validations, design changes, change management related to engineering procedures
- Provide technical assistance to the Tool Engineering Team and production operations
- Establish a course of action to implement tooling changes and production improvements
- Assist in process, die-cast tooling, and equipment testing, troubleshooting and implementation
- Develop Statements-of-Work (SOR), Requests-for-Quote (RFQ), tooling documentation, die manuals, and related technical documents as necessary to manage a project
- Utilize current and develop new tooling standards to support quality, and OEE improvements
Additional Description
Your Skills and Abilities (required qualifications)
- B.S. in Mechanical engineering, Design engineering, or related technical discipline or equivalent experience
- Proficiency and demonstrated knowledge of 3D modeling software (NX preferred)
- Knowledge of tooling, manufacturing, or project management
- Full comprehension of GD&T
- Demonstrated understanding of mechanical concepts involving machine design, process equipment, tooling, and secondary post processing
What Will Give You a Competitive Advantage (preferred qualifications)
- Demonstrated knowledge of foundry processes and ability to apply casting concepts in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of Magma, Flow 3D, simulation software
- Demonstrated knowledge of NX and Teamcenter
- Prior experience in high pressure die-casting (HPDC), tooling, or manufacturing
