Job Description
As the Tooling Engineer, you will have the opportunity to: develop new tooling suppliers, implement improved tool designs, reduce tooling lead time and costs, manage all new tooling projects, as well as tooling PM schedules ensuring compliance through the management of suppliers and operations facilities.
This position will work directly with the Operations Team to review, recommend, and implement Tooling projects in conjunction with New Product Development introductions that will transition Tooling Operations into world class status. The projects will be primarily New Product Introductions but may also include Quality Improvements, Cost Reductions, Strategic Capital projects, Long Term Planning, and Lean Processes.
This position is a key member of simultaneous engineering teams responsible for the development and implementation of new products & processes from concept to market. This role will lead the Tooling Operations portion of the New Product Development process ensuring flawless launch capability as well as be the liaison between the design, process engineering and Tooling functions.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
- Key tooling lead design engineer responsible for new product & process development to incorporates DFM tooling design which provided vision to Product management & Manufacturing.
- Works with the Product Development Team & Operations to ensure tooling, product design & manufacturing processes are aligned to achieve Design for Manufacturability and Assembly.
- Facilitates tooling maturation phases from development to end of product life cycle.
- Work with a cross functional team to manage the external tooling Preventative Maintenance schedules.
- Works with Project Delivery team to define and create the Tooling work breakdown structures for incorporation into project plans. Communicates build status to the cross-functional and project delivery teams. Utilize the APQP process to capture & record and track all open issues to closure.
- Work with the Product Launch Engineering Manager to develop and support the Strategic Engineering & Operations Team.
- May perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Diverse tooling background including texture, compression and steel stamping dies
- Knowledge of all tooling aspects regarding mold design, build and validation.
- Knowledge of design software such as AutoCad and Solid Works. Awareness or ability to program utilizing CAM software is beneficial.
- Ability to travel overnight to suppliers for program milestone reviews such as trials and validation of tooling. Company car available for travel; travel time estimated at 25%.
- Technical understanding of product development process, manufacturing processes and equipment.
- 5+ years of experience in product design, manufacturing, or tool & die.
- Strong project management, communication skills, a 4-year technical degree, BS in Engineering and or tool and die Journeyman.
