On-site: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.
The Role
This role provides a unique opportunity to be part of a great team working to make metal castings a competitive advantage in GM's journey toward electrification and vehicle light weighting through the use of aluminum structural castings. The Diecast Tooling Engineer works with a cross functional team of product, casting, tooling, and equipment engineers to evaluate new product designs and lead new tooling design and build activity. You will work with our team of engineers and tool vendors to improve product and tooling designs, reduce lead times, and improve launch performance.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
  • Develop Statement of Requirements for new die casting tooling projects
  • Work with Process Engineering and process physics modeling teams to improve product fill and solidification, reduce casting distortion, and improve component life
  • Provide feedback to product engineering teams on product manufacturability concerns
  • Provide technical assistance to die builders and vendors
  • Maintain and improve die design and build standards
  • Lead Tooling Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (TFMEA) for new products
  • Establish course of action to track and implement product and process improvement activities for die casting projects
  • Provide and startup and launch support for new die builds

Additional Job Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • B.S. in Mechanical engineering or related technical discipline or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering
  • Experience in large industrial tooling design
  • Proficient in 3D modeling for design review and analysis
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • High level of analytical ability
  • Knowledge of SPC (Statistical Process Control)
  • Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance)

What Can Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience in manufacturing tooling management & maintenance systems
  • Experience in high integrity structural aluminum die casting tooling
  • Experience in die casting fill and solidification simulation analysis
  • Familiarity with hot work tool steels and die coatings
