MAINTENANCE WORKER

This hourly position is not in Civil Service and does not receive benefits.

We are looking for up to two temporary, seasonal Maintenance Workers for a six-month assignment. As a Maintenance Worker, you will perform a variety of routine unskilled or semi-skilled manual duties that involve the maintenance and repair of streets, parks, public facility grounds, forests, and beaches. We offer Flexible Work Schedule, including weekdays and weekend.

The Ideal Candidate
Candidates who are successful in this position demonstrate a strong commitment to public service and customer service; possess excellent verbal communication, decision-making and conflict resolution skills; and can work effectively with moderate degree of independence; are self-assured with the ability to exercise a high degree of common sense and sound judgment; and follow instructions. The ideal candidate is also able to meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
  • Experience: One year of experience in routine maintenance work.
  • Training: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  • License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 75 lbs.; exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work space, chemicals, dust, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites; availability for emergency on-call and call out.
