THE POSITION

The City of Ventura Water Department is looking for an Electrical-Mechanical Maintenance Worker to join our award-winning Team! We are looking to fill a position in Wastewater. If you are seeking an opportunity to grow into a long-term career in water, we offer training and advancement opportunities in a Class V Tertiary Wastewater Reclamation Facility.
Incumbent may be required to work stand-by on rotational basis and report to work on a callback basis as needed within a designated time frame. Standby assignment is at the discretion of the Division Head.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Electrical-Mechanical Maintenance Workers perform electrical and mechanical repairs and installation on a variety of electrical equipment and working with low electrical voltages up to 480 volts. These skilled professionals may work alone or as members of a crew in construction, maintenance/repair of the water system’s equipment and facilities.
Ventura Water Reclamation Facility (VWRF) provides tertiary wastewater treatment with the dry daily average of approximately 7.5 million gallons per day (MGD0> The VWRF is responsible for operating and maintaining all wastewater equipment and infrastructure including the wastewater collection system, 11 life stations, and providing reclaimed water from the Ventura Water Reclamation Facility to two municipal golf courses, the Ventura Marina area, and private customers for landscape irrigation. We maintain a full-service laboratory and monitor our water quality daily.

THE SCHEDULE
This recruitment will follow the below timeline.

  • Week of April 8, 2024 - Oral Panel Interview are tentatively scheduled for this date. Qualifying candidates will be notified by email if they are invited to the panel interview process.
  • Week of April 15, 2024 -Department Selection Interviews are tentatively scheduled for this date. Qualifying candidates will be notified by email if they are invited to the panel interview process.
  • Monday, April 29, 2024 – Candidates will be notified of the outcome of the interview by this date.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The City offers a total compensation package that includes both a generous salary and other benefits!
  • SALARY: $33.75 - $41.02 Hourly DOQ

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO QUALIFY


A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to three years experience performing electrical and mechanical repairs and installation on a variety of electrical equipment and working with low electrical voltages up to 480 volts are required.

Experience or safety training working around medium electrical voltage (4160 volt) is desirable.
License:

Possession of a valid Class C California driver license is required.
Within six months of employment, employee must obtain and thereafter, maintain a valid California State Class A driver license with Tanker endorsement and allowable Auto Transmission restriction. According to the Department of Transportation (DOT), drug testing is required.

Select candidates will be notified of specifics after the filing deadline. Please note, given the current COVID-19 situation, initial panel interviews may be conducted via video teleconference. Selected applicants will be notified of specifics at the appropriate time.
The department selection interviews are tentatively scheduled for Week of April 15, 2024 . Candidates selected to move forward will be notified.
