Job description

Under the general direction of the Supervisor of Building Trades, this position is responsible for in-house construction and maintenance services for the facilities housing and supporting the Department's operations and communications systems. This position travels extensively throughout the state. Please refer to the Duty Statement for the position for specific Essential Functions.

Working Conditions
Alternate work week 4/10, Monday regular day off. This position travels extensively throughout the state, using departmental vehicle.

Special Requirements
  • The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
  • Possession of a valid, permanent, Class C driver license. In addition, a valid Class A driver license and appropriate special endorsements and certificates required to comply with vehicular regulations must be obtained. All positions required to possess a commercial driver license are subject to Federal drug testing regulations. Employees must meet these requirements no later than 90 calendar days after appointment to the class. Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the operation and repair of plumbing, heating, electrical, water, and sewer systems; materials, methods, and tools used in the repair of mechanical equipment and in miscellaneous building maintenance and repair work and skill in the performance of such work; and Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety dealing with heating, electrical, plumbing, and other mechanical systems. Ability to work independently; read, interpret, and work from plans, drawings, and specifications; estimate material needs; keep records; follow oral and written directions; get along well with others; work safely; and read and write at a level appropriate to the classification.
  • The CHP utilizes their own Telecommunications Facilities Technician I list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Telecommunications Facilities Technician II classification in order to be eligible for appointment.
