About the Position:
TJFACT is seeking to hire an experienced and highly qualified Technical Writer/Administrative Support to join our NNCO (National Nanotechnology Coordination Office) team in the Washington, DC area.
This individual shall underpin the technical accuracy of all NNCO activities. Efforts include interagency coordination, stakeholder engagement, and/or efforts focused on specific nanotechnology topics.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepares and edits documents produced by NNI groups, including the NSET Subcommittee and NEHI Working Group.
  • Facilitates document development and works with the NNCO Director, Deputy Director, and NNI agency representatives to edit and produce documents and reports to the high standards of accuracy and quality required by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC). These documents follow the appropriate format for Federal documents and, in some cases, the White House Style Guide.
  • Maintains, updates, and uses the NNCO style guide to ensure consistency and quality of all NNCO written products.
  • Assists the NNCO Director and Deputy Director in preparing workshop reports, strategic plans, the annual NNI Supplement to the President's Budget, and other informational documents.
  • Provides support for document development and publication, which may include writing and formatting sections of the report, coordinating rough text input from multiple authors, circulating drafts for review, proposing manuscript updates to the NNCO Director and/or Deputy Director based on feedback received, validating, and formatting references, obtaining clearances for graphics and tables, copyediting, laying out content, proofing, and finalizing publication in hardcopy and online.
  • Ensures that all publicly released documents comply with Section 508 accessibility requirements.
  • Works with other team members to complete the publication process.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in managing multiple, and sometimes tight, deadlines. Collaborates with the NNCO Director, Deputy Director, and other contractor staff or NNCO Fellows (e.g., graphic designers or scientists) to ensure that documents are compelling, engaging, and technically accurate.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of different content and publishing requirements for reports, strategies, and brochures.
  • Serves as the Executive Secretary for the NSET Subcommittee and NEHI Working Group, and provides similar functions for informal interest groups as needed.
  • Assist group co-chairs in scheduling and organizing meetings (NSET and NEHI meet every other month), including development and distribution of meeting handouts and minutes.
  • Maintains official records of the Subcommittee or Working Group as set out in the NSTC Handbook, including meeting agendas, minutes, and an official membership roster; assist co-chairs in assuring that all NSTC policies and procedures are adhered to, including periodic updating of required records on the OMB MAX website; and ensures that public information about the Subcommittee or Working Group on Nano.gov is up to date.
  • Works with other team members to assist in scheduling and organizing other meetings, conference calls, workshops, and other activities in support of the NNI, including the development and distribution of meeting handouts and action items.
  • Maintains and regularly updates email lists or listservs of participants involved in the various groups and activities.
  • Provides miscellaneous historical and technical support, responding to new assignments as needed/requested.
  • Answers questions from NNCO leadership about historical and legal NNI precedents. Maintains flexibility to address new topics and assignments, including support for other NSTC groups, as needed.
  • Research U.S. Government programs, policies, legal requirements, and legislative history as requested.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • US. Citizenship.
  • Minimum of ten (10) to twelve (12) years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of nanotechnology and of the functioning of the U.S. Government, particularly the Executive Branch.
  • High-level analytical and writing skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills and exquisite attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and on collaborative teams.
