The Technical Quality Specialist is responsible for developing, enhancing, and maintaining Technical Quality investigations and deviations, assisting with the maintenance of Food Safety systems, and analyzing, trending, and reporting quality data to leadership. The Technical Quality Specialist compiles investigation results, analyses, and reviews other quality data to identify trends, and recommends corrective measures and/or quality improvement initiatives to management.
Estimated starting hourly base rate is $70,568.76 - $105,853.14 less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary, variable annual incentive, based on company performance factors. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform batch investigations and assist with complaint investigations in collaboration with subject matter experts from Quality, Production, R&D, Regulatory, and other cross-functional teams, and follow up on corrective actions for closure.
- Act as the deviation coordinator and assist with the initiation, investigation, review, and approval of deviations.
- Assist with the maintenance of the Food Safety Plan by coordinating the completion of HACCP validations and updating the Food Safety Plan when needed.
- Complete raw material hazard analyses and food fraud vulnerability assessments.
- Maintain the Environmental Monitoring (EM) Program and work closely with the laboratory, sanitation, and production teams to ensure monitoring activities and failure investigations are performed, as needed. Review EM data and develop trend reports for management reviews.
- Conduct mock recall and mass balance exercises.
- Work with customers to establish requirements and expectations and communicate these requirements to applicable groups within the company.
- Work with cross-functional teams during new product launches to ensure customer quality requirements are met.
- Coordinate customer specification reviews between Technical Quality, Quality Laboratory, R&D, and Production.
- Participate in Change Control assessments on behalf of Food Safety and Quality, as well as from a customer requirement standpoint.
- Coordinate and track the progress of customer investigations involving the different groups within Quality.
- Act as the Quality Assurance representative in customer quality meetings.
- Act as the main quality contact for customer questions, requests, and concerns. Follow up with different groups within Quality to address customer requests.
- Collect quality investigation and other data to analyze, trend, and report data.
- Scope, retrieve, review, trend, analyze, and report data using spreadsheets, graphs, and databases.
- Ensure completion of investigations that are thorough, accurate, detailed, and timely.
- Ensure accurate, organized, and timely data entry and retention of documents, reports, and records.
- Follow-up as needed to ensure complete and accurate investigations and quality analyses.
- Participate in customer, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and certification audits by acting as an audit scribe and assisting with document collection.
- Identify, generate, and publish metrics and reports related to investigations, quality initiatives, and operations.
- Drive continuous improvement of investigation and quality analytics processes.
- Elevate issues and recommendations to management as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, microbiology, chemistry, or related field.
- 2 years’ experience working in quality within the food & beverage, dietary supplement, or pharmaceutical industry, or commensurate combination of higher education and work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):
- Proficiency with web browsers and Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong customer service, communication, writing, research, reporting, analysis, collaboration, and organization skills.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written, with internal staff and management. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional quality analysis and/or investigation experience.
- HACCP or PCQI certification.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
