POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision from the Edit Lab Manager and Sr Director of Operations & Administration, the New York Film Academy (NYFA) Technical Assistant II (TA II ) will be responsible for assisting our students in the editing lab and its adjacent Edit Lab classrooms. You will also facilitate and run technical aspects of student events and projects. These duties vary based on the event being worked.

 

 

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The day-to-day duties required of this position may vary.

 

  • Offer technical assistance to students on NYFA projects and class exercises and ensure their proper and safe use of equipment.
  • Assisting NYFA Instructors in a classroom setting.
  • Assisting an instructor-led, in-class Post-Production Workshops.
  • Label and deliver media.
  • Safely pack, test and deliver Post Production equipment to and from locations.
  • Set up, assist and project school events.
  • Support Edit Lab Staff.
  • Support Administrative staff with facilities and operations needs.
  • Reinforce general and specific safety procedures.
  • Maintaining attitude of positivity and efficiency during class and Edit Lab exercises.
  • Other duties as assigned by Edit Lab Manager, Operations Management or Senior Management.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Need AVID editing experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comfort working with individuals from various cultures and backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of AVID, Adobe Premiere, web technologies, networks and Apple computers.
  • Basic knowledge of DaVinci Resolve, Color Correction and Pro Tools.
  • Understanding of 4K workflows (with proxies) is a must.
  • Ability to work well in a team atmosphere.
  • A/V experience preferred.
  • Perform basic math.
  • Basic knowledge of the industry and professional related experience.
  • Basic skills in database management and record keeping.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to meet and serve the public, both in person and by telephone, tactfully and effectively.
  • Understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to analyze and present complex data.
  • Ethical / Honest - evidence of the practice of a high-level confidentiality.
  • Service and Action oriented does what it takes to meet the expectations of customers.
  • Collaborative enlists information from all sources to ensure the best solution to an issue.
  • Proficiency in problem solving/troubleshooting in time sensitive situations.
  • General classroom, equipment and on-set safety and etiquette.

 

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and CERTIFICATION:

  • Must have AVID editing experience
  • Bachelors Degree in related field. Experience may substitute for required education up to 4 years.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Suite Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Valid Drivers License preferred.
  • Experience driving cargo vans, box trucks or lift gate trucks preferred.
  • Knowledge and observation of film set hierarchy.

 

 

The New York Film Academy was founded in 1992 on the belief that a top-quality education in filmmaking should be accessible to anyone with the drive and ambition to make films. The school opened at Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Film Center in New York City and has expanded worldwide to include campuses in New York; Los Angeles; Miami; and Gold Coast, Australia.
