Position: Multi-language Learner Project-Based Learning Facilitator
Program Description: Dream MORE is a summer and afterschool program that operates at Marshall Middle School and serves students in grades 6-8. ML students are a priority target group but the program is open to all students (including students outside of Marshall but TMMS students get priority). LEAP for Education (a Salem-based nonprofit) partners with LPS to operate the program which is largely supported by federal 21st Century Learning Center funds.
The Dream MORESummer Program will run from July 10 - August 10 on Mondays-Thursdays and take place at Marshall Middle School. The program offers morning project-based learning (PBL) opportunities in a variety of subject areas (including technology, STEM, social justice, SEL, video production) to provide opportunities for students to explore new interests in engaging ways, connect school day learning to new applications, and develop social-emotional and team work skills. During the afternoons, students participate in enrichment classes in the arts and sports.
Dream MORE is seeking teachers for the position outlined below. The hours for these positions are 8:30 AM - 12:15 PM, Monday-Thursday. Certified teachers will be paid at the contractual rate of $50 an hour. Each of the 6 PBL facilitators will have support in the classroom from a group leader and social workers/counselors who spend some time daily with each cohort to provide additional support.
Multi-language Learner Project-Based Learning Facilitator: The ML-certified teacher in this position will lead a group of 16-18 ML students in a collaborative, problem-solving experience that incorporates academic learning and opportunities to build and practice English speaking, writing, and reading skills. Students will be in mixed grade cohorts of 16-18 students who will likely be level 2 and 3 students. The Facilitator will be paid for 20-25 hours of upfront planning time to create a community-focused PBL experience (there will also be 2 hours of weekly planning time during the session). LEAP staff will provide examples, support, and some resources to work from.
Compensation: $50 an hour (contractual rate LPS certified teachers)
