Department: Kingdom Christian Academy Job Status: Full-Time / Part-Time
Hours of Operation: 6:30a – 6:00p Mon-Fri Reports To: Lead Teacher
Amount of Travel Required: Only for Training
Positions Supervised: Teacher Aide
Work Schedule: Based on shift worked

POSITION SUMMARY
Perform duties under the direct supervision of the Lead Teacher. Able to teach the ABeka, Pinnacle or most current curriculum. Ability to provide a daily schedule for a balance between child-choice and teacher directed activities, quiet and active time, and inside and outside play. Children have daily opportunities to read books, use a variety of art media, explore math and science materials, music experience, dance, and work alone or together with friends. Coordinate with Lead Teacher for the academic and non-academic activities for caring of toddlers, preschool, and school age children. Perform a variety of tasks and oversee play in the child care center or programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
  • Observe and monitor to insure the safety and well being of the children at all times, being alert for the needs and /or problems of the children as individuals and as a group.
  • Recognizing and encouraging appropriate behaviors, enforcing limits and rules consistently and fairly, and explaining the consequences of inappropriate behaviors.
  • Keep records on individual children, including daily observations and information about activities, meals served, incidents, behaviors, and medications administered.
  • Organize and participate in recreational activities, such as games, programs, parent night out, and any other related things pertaining to the child care facility.
  • Assist in preparing food for children and serve meals and refreshments to children and regulate rest periods.
  • Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in the classroom as well as cleaning and sanitizing toys, cots, and play equipment.
  • Help children with homework and school work.
  • Perform housekeeping duties such as laundry, cleaning, and changing of linens.
  • Accompany children to and from different areas in the school, on field trips, and on the playground.
  • Walk the playground area to make sure there is nothing that would be a danger to the children.
  • Ensures that care given is in compliance with child development standards as outlined in applicable regulations.
  • Assist in arranging room and play materials to accommodate the daily schedule. Sets up displays and bulletin boards.
  • Assist with helping create adult-made games and play materials (i.e., mixing paint, play dough, and assembling props for dramatic play activities, etc.). Assists with developing a list of needed supplies and equipment for submission to the supervisor.
  • Maintains an accurate count of children in their care.
  • Conducts daily health checks of children. Notifies the supervisor or center director of any marks other signs that might indicate a suspicion of illness, abuse or neglect.
  • Completes and submits required reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assist with teacher conferences with parents and supervisor.
  • Coordinates by age, the appropriate play and learning activities to facilitate individual and group activity development. Leads children in songs, games, finger plays, and other activities.
  • Attends to the physical needs of children (i.e., diapering, feeding, toileting, resting, etc.). Helps children to develop self-help skills and assists children during family style meals.
  • Helps children collect their belongings when they depart. Ensures that each child leaves with his or her parent. Asks for proper identification when someone other than the parent is authorized to take the child.
  • Attends staff meetings and training.
  • Perform supervision while outside or in the classroom. Make sure you have a close eye on your children at all times. Must be active with them when they are in your presence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Closing the classroom: Each teacher is responsible for sweeping their floor each evening, emptying their trash from their room and filling their soap bottles. At the end of the day please make sure you turn out the lights. The lights are on automatic but sometimes they do not go off as quickly as they should.

Education
Must have a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and working toward an AA degree.
Experience
Two to three years related experience with working with children in a childcare environment.

CPR/First Aid, Child Abuse & Neglect w/Head Trauma, Child Development, Safe Sleep, Signs & Symptoms of Childhood Illnesses, and 12.5 hours of observations
Other Requirements
Working towards an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education. Staff members are required to accumulate ten hours of continuing education on a yearly basis.
