JOB GOAL:
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Kidzone Teacher Assistant will perform academic instruction, youth development activities, fine arts, and recreation activities, including programming and other administrative responsibilities within the contract function/services. The Teacher Assistant will be the designated person in charge of the site when the Program Director is out of the program area. The Teacher Assistant will be responsible for planning, delivering, and following up with daily programming activities. The Teacher Assistant will be required to plan and coordinate the daily work assignments for students.
- Assist with planning, organization, supervision, and evaluation of the Kidzone programs consistent with the SRS grant stipulations, Kansas Department of Health and Environment regulations and the needs of the membership and community.
- Assist with supervision of the program site directors and site supervisors.
- Work as a liaison with school based administrators, program providers, support staff, and other agencies in programs.
- Meet regularly with program site directors and site supervisory staff and provide direction, problem solving and support in an effective and professional manner.
- Assist in ensuring that all site directors/site supervisors understand and adhere to general regulations as provided by the State of Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
- Assist in ensuring that all site directors understand the policies, goals and objectives of the program, and that such are implemented by all staff associated with the programs.
- Support and encourage substantial parent involvement at each school site through volunteer programs, family nights, etc., working collaboratively with volunteer organizations, etc.
- Assist with the evaluation of the program's effectiveness in meeting enrollment, recruitment, and program needs; effectively recommend program changes as needed.
- Understand and ensure necessary paperwork for the Nutritional Services Program.
- Work collaboratively with the Special Education Department and Kansas State Department of Education to ensure efficiency in the reimbursement process.
- Work in conjunction with the Nutritional Services Department to ensure quality and efficient food service for the program.
- Maintain and log weekly reports from sites, including student enrollment and attendance data, staffing patterns, funds deposited, and meals served.
- Assist collaboratively with the Program Manager and the Director of Students Services in budgeting and financial records.
- Assist with preparation and timely reporting of formal reports to the Director of Student Services or other appropriate management staff as necessary.
- Receive ongoing professional development training in youth development and related fields, DCIP (District Continuous Improvement Plan), Kansas Department of Health and Environment, and Kansas 21st Century Grants.
- Assist with planning, coordination, and evaluation of summer school programming for elementary, middle, and high schools.
- Attend Advisory committee meetings and other meetings as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of Bachelor's Degree.
- Minimum of one-year experience in youth service field.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate record keeping.
- Knowledge of KDHE licensing requirements for before and after school programs.
- Knowledge of Emergency Plans for before and after school programs.
- Knowledge of USD 500, Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools Code of Conduct.
- Ability to maintain daily, weekly, and monthly data collection records for participant reports.
- Ability to interpret and / or present information regarding Federal Programs to community groups and agencies.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.

COMMUNICATION:
Maintains communication with teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students. Provides health services, information, and counseling in an effective and positive manner to enhance the health and wellness of the school community. Completes accident/incident reports for students/staff. Compiles data for statistical purposes. Maintains confidentiality regarding educational records.
ORGANIZATION:
Maintains a daily log of school/staff visits and documentation. Maintains the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties. Performs other related work as required.

SALARY: $15.75 - $18.83/hour
