The Teacher’s Assistant will assist the Lead Teacher in caring and educating children from infancy to 17 years. He/she will guide students towards gaining knowledge and skills in order to become productive community members through lessons in mathematics, science, social studies and social/civic studies, health and overseeing recreation and physical education activities. He/she will also assist students transitioning back to the public school system. This position will assist children in adjusting to issues related to their social and academic development. This position is year-round and does not follow typical state school system schedules.
Essential Functions:
1. Create a safe and encouraging learning environment.
2. Implement provided curriculum.
3. Find and/or create necessary resources for curriculum.
4. Scaffold learning to meet student’s age and skill level.
5. Provide daily school routine for children of a variety ages and educational backgrounds.
6. Assist in implementation of each student’s educational plan, provide initial educational assessment and assess academic progress, oversee all school activities.
7. Assist Lead Teacher in maintaining records for students’ academic, health and recreational activities.
8. Participate as a team member and attend meetings with treatment team members to discuss children’s behavior in classroom if necessary.
9. Attend training provided internally and in the community and apply newly gained knowledge in providing services.
10. Provide written and verbal communication translation for program clientele and staff.
11. Organize and participate in recreational activities, such as games and field trips.
12. Document and report according to contractual requirements and in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
13. Assume other duties assigned by supervisor.
Skills:
-High school diploma (or equivalent), Associate degree or some college credits preferred.
- Ability to educate and engage students in learning activities
- Previous experience in nannying or caregiving roles is a plus
- Familiarity with toddler care and daycare environments
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children
- Conversational level of Spanish, enjoys working as a team, flexible, good natured, firm, must be able to work and enjoy working with children, patient.
- Awareness and sensitivity to the service population’s cultural characteristics is required.
