Department OFFICE OF THE UNIVERSITY CONTR (UA-CTRO-IUBLA) Department Information The Office of the University Controller provides leadership and guidance for financial compliance, systems, and services at Indiana University. While our department serves all 7 IU campuses, we are physically located on the Bloomington Campus. Job Summary Department-Specific Responsibilities Prepares and files tax returns with various federal, state, and local agencies. Manages submission of tax returns to external agencies and individuals/entities.

Calculates and transmits tax payments by due dates. Reviews and approves payment requests while remaining in compliance with policies, procedures, and tax and immigration law. Manages assigned tax projects and workflow in the various functional areas, including payroll and employment tax, international tax, UBIT, sales tax and other miscellaneous tax areas.

Owns tax compliance in the areas of account reconciliation; training, education and outreach; tax research, policy and procedure development, and researches and applies complex tax and immigration regulations. General Responsibilities Performs routine independent analysis of tax payments and due dates, vendor payments, and general account ledgers. Applies tax and immigration regulations and submits tax returns with various federal, state, and local agencies.

Troubleshoots and independently corrects errors through tax audits, escalating moderately complex issues as needed. Serves as a liaison to external funding sources and ensures organizational accounts and procedures maintain compliance with applicable standards. Creates regular reports of tax activity and makes process and risk-mitigation recommendations.

Responds to employee inquiries and requests and explains tax policies and procedures. May provide assistance to lower-level Tax Specialists and Coordinators. May provide organizational tax training.

Qualifications Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

EDUCATION Required Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field WORK EXPERIENCE Required 2 years in relevant field LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES Required With non-accounting degree, CPA required Preferred With accounting degree, CPA or Masters in Taxation preferred With non-accounting degree, Masters in Taxation or equivalent certification preferred SKILLS Required Ability to analyze and interpret financial data Proficient communication skills Maintains a high degree of professionalism Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills Demonstrates a high commitment to quality Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty Highly thorough and dependable Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location Bloomington, Indiana. This position is eligible for remote work or to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change based on university policy and business needs. Advertised Salary $62,000 - $65,000 annually, depending upon qualifications.
