Scope of Work:
This Systems Test Engineer III provides expert support to the National Weather Service (NWS) Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS). ASOS is a multi-agency surface-based weather observing network system that ingests, processes, and disseminates weather data for use by meteorologists, researchers, and external partners including DoD, FAA, and the private sector. Our Testing Engineer will be responsible for the evaluation of all system instrumentation, hardware, and software components to ensure that they are suitable for field deployment and will meet the needs of NWS.
Description:
Functions: Understands, articulates, and implements best practices related to the architecture, deployment, operations, and maintenance of surface-based environmental observation systems.
Will be tasked by existing subject matter expert who will provide guidance as to how their technical expertise can be applied to resolve organizational needs and will actively participate in all phases of the system development life cycle.
Assists the ASOS Program Managers with the program and project management consisting of Cost, Scope, Schedule, and Performance of ongoing and future program initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the engineering of software solutions based on client requirements.
Supervise a staff of engineers as required, system testing, and appraising and presenting solutions.
Apply experience with systems analysis, testing, and troubleshooting hardware (RF, Analog, Digital)
Support installation and maintainability for the Automated Surface Observation System (ASOS)
Build automatic test equipment leveraging automated scripts
Required Skills /Education/ Certifications & Qualifications:
Education: BS/MS in engineering
8 - 10 years of engineering experience
Experience supporting multiple operating systems, LAN/WAN, and hardware
Desired Skills:
Prior experience working for NOAA or National Weather Service or supporting weather-centric electronic systems
