Description
Under direction of the Manager of Applications Development, provide support in analyzing computer data and information; determine data integrity; develop computer software applications to provide data analysis function and reports for institutional use. Design, develop, test and implement system programs and SQL scripts, analyze Ellucian Banner Student Information system (SIS) system for a variety of institutional data processing needs; research, write and maintain end user documentation to support programs and operational/business procedures; instruct Banner SIS end users on the proper operation and provide expertise and consultation services to Rockhurst administration, staff, and faculty through training, maintenance and troubleshooting.
Job duties include:
Design, program, maintain, and debug existing Banner programs and data structures to meet end user needs; provide for proper maintenance of assigned programs; identify increased reporting capability, records maintenance and/or data manipulation requirements.
Design, program, maintain, and analyze new programs, scripts, data structures, user business processes to accommodate current and future needs; consult with system end users to detect and define existing needs and requirements, propose, and discuss alternative approaches, and resolve questions and issues; Analyze user business processes and design application/solutions to help streamline the operations; assure file conversion and cross-operating platform file manipulation as appropriate
Detect, analyze, and define data needs for various Rockhurst organization work requests; collect, process, and employ end user inputs, information, or other data to determine Banner system needs and requirements.
Facilitate Rockhurst's use of the Banner modules in support and upgrades of the software.
Work with Banner system; Argos software for reporting, provide interfaces between external software systems and Banner, and other general programming duties as assigned.
Coordinate system-related activities with other departments for multi-departmental system projects.
Preparing functional/technical specifications for reporting, interfaces, and integrations.
Write and maintain Banner system operations documentation for end users and provide training support as needed; assure documentation contains steps to initiate programs and routines to remedy interruptions in program runs.
Test, debug and identify Banner system performance; work with external vendors to remedy Banner issues and to coordinate module updates.
Maintain permanent contact with end users from various departments to discuss and analyze Banner system performance and efficiency; consult with end users to discuss desired system data output and user expectation; respond to diversified questions and issues from faculty and staff concerning Ellucian Banner system processes and business practices.
Conduct and attend meetings with consultants, IT staff, administrators, and other staff as needed.
Maintain current knowledge of Banner related developments, issues, and advancements in data processing equipment, software, and programming.
Maintain all tracking and issue logging (e.g. Help Desk tickets, change control, and other documentation)
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge
Must have effective verbal and written communication skills with some proficiency in writing technical documentation.
Previous experience with relational databases and SQL is required.
An advanced knowledge of Evisions Argos, Microsoft Access, or any similar reporting system is required.
Previous experience as a systems/business analyst or experience with managing information technology projects is a plus, preferably in a higher education environment.
Experience with the Ellucian Banner ERP system is preferred.
Systems thinking: the ability to see how parts interact with the whole.
Familiarity with IT governance and operations.
Ability to work with all management levels and influence enterprise technology decisions while being able to motivate and inspire others to accomplish desired goals.
Self-directed, self-starter, and motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
The ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and GLBA guidelines is required.
Education
Relevant Bachelor's Degree or High School diploma and equivalent work experience.
