GSI is seeking an experienced System Administrator to join our team. The System Administrator needs deep and broad knowledge of computer software, hardware, and networks. The person in this role will be responsible for designing, organizing, modifying, and supporting our company’s computer systems. The System Administrator will design and oversee local area networks, wide area networks, and network segments. Daily tasks may include installing, upgrading, and monitoring software and hardware. The System Administrator will also maintain the essentials such as operating systems, policies and system documentation, business applications, security tools, webservers, email, laptop, and desktop PCs.
Primary Responsibilities- Have responsibility for the daily maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, servers, network devices, and virtualization (onsite and offsite).
- Managing SQL Clustering, and File Replication.
- Monitor and maintain network servers such as file servers, database servers, VPN gateways, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems; and ensuring high-level security and efficiency resulting in 100% output.
- Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.
- Administer servers, laptop and desktop computers, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, phones, company mobile phones, smartphones, software deployment, security updates and patches.
- Create and/or update asset management records.
- Work closely with the ITS team to provide support to the GSI employees.
- Provide documentation for System Administration and IT Policy as needed.
- Support LANs, WANs, VLAN, Routing, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems.
- Other duties, tasks, or projects as required or assigned.
GSI offers a hybrid work schedule to our staff with flexible work hours. The ideal candidate will live in the Portland area and be available to work in the Portland office three days per week.
Position requires frequent computer use in an office setting and may require sitting for long periods of time at their desk. Must be comfortable working long hours from time-to-time to meet deadlines. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and/or fingers to handle/feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.
- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, phones, photo copiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Any combination of experience and training outlined below would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities required.
- Experience with additional computer applications including ArcGIS Enterprise, SQL Clustering, and the management of SQL servers.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences or relevant field, or relevant experience
- 4+ years of IT Administrator experience
- Advanced knowledge of Windows 10, Windows servers 2016, 2019, and 2022.
- Advanced knowledge of Windows Virtualization
- Experience managing Office 365 and Exchange Online
- Good understanding of core services provided by Windows server and how the client interacts and depends on those services, including Group Policy, DFS-R, File Sharing, DHCP, DNS, AD Users and Computers
- Firewall/network management experience (SonicWall preferred).
- Experience writing and/or updating system policies and documentation.
- Experience with additional computer applications including ArcGIS Enterprise and the management of SQL servers.
- Experience with VoIP (Mitel).
