Job Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and in close partnership with the senior leadership team, the ChiefPhilanthropy Officer (CPO) will strengthen the systems capabilities through strategic planning, aggressive fundraising initiatives, staff and board development, and innovative program development.

Leveraging the momentum of an ongoing $40 million capital campaign, the CPO will be influential in transforming a development program and fostering a thriving philanthropic culture. They will play a pivotal role in designing and executing a comprehensive plan that includes identifying system-wide priorities, establishing a grateful patient program, and building a robust annual giving program that fuels the pipeline for major gift support.

The CPOs responsibilities will include managing, motivating, and training the development staff to ensure their professional growth and success.

The CPO will be expected to develop collaborative partnerships across CNE and with the Systems executive leadership. They will ensure effective coordination between Marketing and Development and consistent messaging about CNE to steward donors and communicate the impact of CNEs work.

They will also work closely with the Chief Financial Officer to ensure thorough and accurate financial reporting, compliance, and budget forecasting in all categories of fundraising and financial support.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Goals, Strategy, and Accountability
Oversee creation, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes measurable goals and objectives to secure annual, major, capital, and endowment support.
Provide direct support to CEO and the Board of Directors in developing philanthropic priorities, goals, and strategies for CNE.
Provide regular reports of fundraising progress to keep leadership informed of progress towards goals.

Fundraising and Grantmaking
Accept primary responsibility for managing a portfolio of top donors and prospects, engaging CEO, other Foundation staff, and volunteer leaders, as appropriate.
Oversee and serve as a mentor and thought partner with the Major Gift Officers for responsive and strategic grant-making activities.
Fully integrating donor prospecting, cultivation, stewardship, and moves management strategies for annual givers, major donors, corporations and foundations, Board and Development Committee.
Staff the Board Development and Stewardship Committees.
Support and promote the work of the Board as it relates to fundraising and cultivating outstanding volunteer leaders.
Responsible for strategic direction related to signature events.

Administration, Management, and Systems
Serve on the senior leadership team.
Recruit, develop, and supervise a team of fundraising professionals who will implement the programs and activities necessary to achieve the development plan.
Ensure effective communication among Foundation staff and guarantee that the momentum of all fundraising programs is maintained.
Create and oversee the implementation of systems and strategies to increase donor engagement.
Ensure accuracy and integrity of donor database CRM (Raisers Edge) in close collaboration with the Information Services Officer.
Manage consultant and vendor contracts.

Requirements:
A minimum of 10 years fundraising and development experience in large complex organizations with at least five years in a senior leadership role overseeing operational and performance outcomes and a strong understanding of the complexities and opportunities in the healthcare landscape.
Gravitas, confidence, and the ability to respectfully interact with high-profile individuals of the caliber and accomplishments of CNEs stakeholders and to be respected in exchange.
Extensive experience working within a matrixed organizational structure, effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams and adeptly managing competing priorities.
Commitment to the mission of CNE and supporting a public health hospital system operating in a complex governmental and academic environment.
Verified track record of meeting or exceeding measurable fundraising goals in a medium to large, fast-paced nonprofit environment.
Strong background managing all aspects of fundraising including high-net-worth individuals, foundation and corporate relations, grants, and print and digital communications.
Team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside CNE.
Excellent communication and coalition-building skills, with the ability to advocate effectively for healthcare initiatives and build support from diverse stakeholders.
Possess strong emotional intelligence with a proven ability to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics, fostering positive relationships, and effectively resolving conflicts, leading to a harmonious and productive work environment.
Exceptional ability to build and lead high-performing development teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Proven expertise in scaling and optimizing fundraising functions, adeptly managing and expanding fundraising teams to meet growing financial goals and driving continuous improvement in fundraising processes.
Ability to be decisive, strategic, entrepreneurial, resourceful, and visionary.
A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in healthcare practices and philanthropic endeavors.
Supervisory and management experience; demonstrated teambuilding, mentoring, and leadership skills.
Expertise in creating budgets and forecasting revenue.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills.

Preferred Requirements:
Demonstrated interest in healthcare philanthropy and community health.
Familiarity with the Rhode Island philanthropic community.
Fundraising experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
Committed to advancing the mission within the local community and New England region.

Diplomatic and ability to listen well, collaborate, negotiate carefully, and be open-minded to unexpected opportunities.

Bachelors degree, with a Master's or related advanced degree.

The CPO will be a seasoned fundraising professional with demonstrated success overseeing sophisticated development programs, preferably in healthcare settings.
