Surgical LVN

Overview:

Texas Oncology is looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) to join our team ! This position will support the Stone Oak location . This is a full-time Monday - Friday 8am-5pm position with no weekends, call, or major holidays.
This position can be a level 1, 2 or Sr based on relevant candidate experience.

What does the LPN/LVN do? ( including but not limited to)
Under general supervision, provides general nursing care for patients following established standards and practices . Promote efficient patient flow, assists with patient care. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities:
The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• Provides general nursing care to patients .
• Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
• Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during examination and procedures.
• Observes, records, and reports patients condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
• Administers prescribed medications as directed .
• Screens patients for appropriate information . Instructs patients in collection of specimen samples for testing .
• Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls . Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
• Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
• Performs EKG and oxymetry readings as required by physician .
• Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.
• Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.
• Maintains patient files, records and other information.
• Initiate IV fluids and IV therapeutic medications in accordance with LPN/LVN state nurse practice act

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the LPN/LVN will have the following background and experience:
Level 1

• High school graduate or equivalent .
• Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing .
• This position is entry level and requires 0-3 years experience as a practical nurse.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred .
• Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state .
• Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
• Front office/Back office experience preferred.
• Surgical experience preferred.

Level 2 (in addition to level 1 req uirements)

• This position requires at least 3 years experience as a practical nurse.

Level Sr (in addition to level 1 and 2 requirements)

• Requires a minimum of five years experience as a practical nurse in a hospital or clinic setting.
• Current CPR certification required.
