The University of Miami is currently seeking a Surgery Scheduler to work at Desai Sethi Medical Center in Miami. The incumbent assists with the coordination and scheduling of surgical procedures and serves as liaison between physicians, medical staff, and other departments to ensure smooth scheduling operations. Moreover, the Surgery Scheduler works directly with patients and strives to provide an excellent healthcare experience.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Schedules surgical appointments and monitors cancellations, keeping daily schedule accurate and current.
Completes necessary paperwork prior to pre-op appointments and obtains referrals and authorizations.
Follows up with appropriate departments to ensure that all pre-op results are available prior to the procedure.
Informs patients regarding activities that will take place during the visit and provides pamphlet of appropriate surgical facility.
Apprises patients of financial responsibilities prior to the date of the procedure.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office).
DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions
Creates and maintains daily schedule and complete edits in a timely manner.
Completes all necessary paperwork prior to pre-op appointments including updating the surgery log immediately after confirming surgery with patients.
Monitors cancellation of physician surgical schedules.
Obtains referral and authorization from PCPs or insurances, when needed.
Coordinate pre-op testing with outside medical doctors i.e., blood work, EKG, and medical clearance in a timely manner.
Follows-up with medical doctor's office and internal imaging techs to ensure that all the pre-op results are back in a timely manner to ensure timely procedure starts.
Informs the patient regarding activities that will take place during his/her visit and provide patient pamphlets to the appropriate surgical facility.
Works closely with the front desk staff when discharged patients need to schedule surgery in order to ensure efficient patient flow.
Adheres to system policies and procedures concerning the registration process.
Informs patients of their financial responsibility when appropriate (self-pay patients, non-contracted insurance coverage, etc.)
Maintains effective communication with patients, physicians, staff members, and community physicians and their staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
