Duties
This position is the Supervisory Firearms Programs Specialist, (Chief), GS-1801-15, located under the Office of Enforcement Programs and Services, Firearms and Explosives Industry Division in Washington, District of Columbia.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Chief, GS-1801-15, Firearms and Explosives Industry Division, responsible for planning, developing, directing, and coordination of firearms and explosives enforcement programs for the Bureau. Primary advisor to the Assistant Director of EPS and Deputy Assistant Director on matters pertaining to the enforcement of firearms and explosives statutes that are within the jurisdiction of the Bureau. Responsible to direct short- and long-range program planning and projections; review budget forecasts and justifications; conduct comprehensive evaluations of division goals, objectives, achievements, staffing, and equipment requirements and organizational structure and develop division policies, procedures, and guidelines to promote efficient and effective mission accomplishment.
As Supervisory Firearms Program Specialist, (Chief), GS-1801-15, typical work assignments may include:
Provide authoritative interpretations, instructions, and guidance to division personnel.
Establish a safety program that encompasses training subordinates in safe practices, accident and fire prevention good safety attitudes, identification of potential hazards, and ensure prompt reporting of accidents, injuries, illnesses and their causes.
Direct complex investigative and technical programs of the division.
Utilize tact, diplomacy, and persuasiveness to justify, defend, and expand branch programs and services.
Advise Assistant Director of program changes and operations that may generate media or Congressional attention.

This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Qualifications
To qualify for Supervisory Firearms Program Specialist, (Chief), GS-1801-15, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-14.
Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume.
GS-15 - You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience, performing all of the following duties.
Specialized Experience includes:
Interpret and implement firearms and explosives policies and regulations; AND
Apply in-depth knowledge of laws and regulations governing firearms and explosives statutes and related programs; AND
Communicate with a high degree of effectiveness in order to formulate and present conclusions, explain, and interpret factual information, and ensure cohesive and cooperative work efforts; AND
Oversee research and dissemination of technical knowledge and advice relating to firearms and explosives matters to other Bureau offices, Federal, State, local, and foreign law enforcement agencies.
