MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:
- Holds Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area.
- A minimum of three (3) years successful transportation supervisory experience in either the public
or private sector. - Holds or is willing to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Maryland State
endorsement for passenger vehicles. - Demonstrates knowledge of safe transportation best practices.
- Ability to effectively communicate with colleagues and the public.

Transportation Department Oversights - Organization and implementation of an overall, comprehensive, transportation program serving
all schools in Caroline County. - Ensures proper staffing to be present and prepared to drive routes - each day, every day.
- Organization and maintaining of county-owned buses.
- Management and monitoring of the Limited Liability Corporation contractor bus drivers.
- Confirmation of all school bus drivers and their buses satisfy all state and federal requirements.
- Oversight of all department trainings.
- Providing transportation for students with special needs.
- Synchronize the field trip bus service program.
- Monitoring of all bus loading/unloading areas, routes and school entrances for safety.
- Providing coordination between schools when a referral is made involving two or more students
in different schools. - Providing bus drivers support from building admin with those students who are ineligible to ride
the school bus.

Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION
Provide the Transportation Department oversight and leadership assuring safe and efficient
transportation of students to and from school and providing all student transportation services according
the Board of Education policies. This position reports to the CCPS Director of Operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:
- Accountable for monitoring, supervising, implementing and directing staff conformance to
established transportation guidelines. - Accountable for all Department staffing ensuring that all bus routes are covered with no
interrupted service - each day, every day. - Ensures daily that safe roads conditions will exist for buses to safely travel all bus routes (both AM
& PM as well as during all afterschool activities). - Provides early morning, weather-related, information and recommendations to the Superintendent
for possible school closings or delays. - Conducts all interviewing and hiring of Transportation department staff. Maintains a pool of
substitutes to be available daily when needed. - Maintains a school bus driver certification program.
- Monitors Bus Driver trainers.
- Evaluates school bus drivers and other transportation employees.
- Executes the Drug and Alcohol Program for CDL holders.
- Serves as the on-site lead at all bus accident scenes. Completes all accident investigations and
reports as needed. Works effectively & efficiently with MABE. - Ensures that department office staff are adequately trained.
- Establishes and chairs advisory building councils to improve communication and review student
conduct on buses. - Acts as the hearing officer for complaints from parents, students, bus drivers and administrators.
- Attends all school based special education meetings relative to transportation.
- Publishes annual procedures related to student conduct on school buses. Works directly with
building principals and building administration. - Develops training and support programs that enhance program improvement. Implements the
annual department training day to review and update with all bus drivers and bus assistants the
school bus safety, administration procedures and discipline policies. - Assesses system transportation needs including all required software, videos and other bus
technologies. - Assists in the development of the transportation budget.
- Maintains and submits accurate, timely and well-documented records and reports to MSDE.
Processes and reconciles bussing contractor payroll monthly. - Works with the purchasing agent and the Director of Operations preparing bid specifications and
recommend contract awards for major purchases of equipment and services. - Serves as a member of the Board of Education contract negotiations team for the Limited Liability
Corporation (LLC) contractual bus drivers. Liaison for the Superintendent to the LLC - Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent
