Introduction The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites eligible candidates to apply for an internship with the Chesapeake and Coastal Service. GRADE 9998 LOCATION OF POSITION Annapolis, MD. Anne Arundel County.

Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of this position is to work with various stakeholders within the Tawes Office Building to help administer and track DNR grants that are aimed at restoring the health of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Intern duties 1) Help map existing grants by linking geo coordinates to our existing grant database; 2) Conduct grant site visits to learn more about potential and existing projects and how different environmental restoration methods benefit the Chesapeake Bay watershed; 3) Coordinate with internal and external DNR contacts to help facilitate the grant reporting process; 4) Conduct site sampling and invasive species management to track the current progress of existing grants and help restore natural areas; and 5) Create informational graphics for Grants Gateway solicitation. The internship runs 12 weeks between June and August.

The specific start/end dates, hours, and schedule will be determined in collaboration between the intern and supervisor. DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Professional experience or educational experience related to the following fields with a demonstrated interest in environmental restoration or stewardship: Computer/Information Science/GIS, Accounting/ Finance/Administration, Landscape/Architecture & Environmental Design, Communications, Environmental Science, Political Science/Public Policy, Urban Forestry, or Regional and Urban Planning SELECTION PROCESS Please make sure you provide sufficient information on your application to show that you meet the minimum qualifications for this recruitment and submit all additional documentation as required as noted below in the "Further Instructions" section.

BENEFITS Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits.

You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits. Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
