Scope:FYE Student Coordinators will serve as leaders throughout the peer mentor program. They will report to and support the Associate Director of First-Year Experience and Transition Programs. In addition, they will serve as transfer peer mentors during New Student Orientation. FYE Student Coordinators represent and model all the positive qualities of a McDaniel student. They will provide academic, personal, and social support for all FYE programming for freshmen and transfers. FYE Student Coordinators will plan, market, and support various first-year activities, including Student Success workshops, freshmen highlight events, and transfer events.
Basic Responsibilities:
FYE Student Coordinators help drive the training and implementation of the peer mentor program. They will model and foster an inclusive environment that teaches peer mentors how to help new students develop strong identities as McDaniel community members.
FYE Coordinator responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Plan and implement spring semester training.
- Work remotely throughout the summer to plan August training
- Execute August training for all peer mentors.
- Oversee small pod of peer mentors.
- Participate in August Orientation.
- Serve as transfer peer mentors during Orientation.
- Plan, market, and participate in FYE events (freshmen highlight events and transfer events), as directed by the Associate Director of the First-Year Experience and Transition Programs.
- Support Student Success Workshops, as needed.
- Meet regularly with the Associate Director of the First-Year Experience and Transition Programs in the spring and following fall.
- Assist in the evaluation efforts of the FYE.
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of the First-Year Experience and Transition Programs.
Duration of Appointment and Schedule:
- February/March 2024 - December 2024
- This timeline begins with spring training, continues through August training and orientation, and progresses through the entire fall semester.
- Hours scheduled at the discretion of the supervisor

Evaluation Procedures:
- FYE Student Coordinators are evaluated on a continuing basis at the discretion of the supervisor
Requirements:
Qualifications & Expectations
- Must have successfully completed at least 1 semester at McDaniel by the start of training.
- Must have served as a FYS peer mentor for at least one appointment (2023 fall semester/or yearly if before Fall of 2023)
- Have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and have a clean disciplinary record at McDaniel College (i.e., not on disciplinary probation as of the start of employment).
- Involved in the campus community and proud McDaniel student who demonstrates a high level of professionalism.
- Reliable, responsible, and detail-oriented.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and modeling inclusive behavior and promoting a culture of belonging.
- Participate in a required interview process.
- Participate in the required training sessions (in-person and online). The first training is expected to take place in March. Students will also move onto campus early for Peer Mentor training ahead of New Student Orientation in August.
