The Career Experience Coordinator plans, implements, and coordinates the afternoon career development and Career Experience component of the program for up to 60 students. This includes supervision of career development instructors and coordination and supervision of participants as they participate in Upward Bound internships and job shadows at sites throughout the community. This position is a minimum of five (5) weeks, with the potential for an additional two (2) weeks, living in the residence hall Sunday night- Friday afternoon. Preference will be given to residential applicants.
Program Dates: June 17, 2024 through July 19, 2024, plus possibly July 21, 2024, through August 2, 2024.
Essential Duties
- Instructs, supervises, and coordinates all aspects of the career development component of the summer program for up to 60 students.
- Serves as the campus liaison to local employers and work sites that host Upward Bound students, including responding to issues as they arise.
- Coordinates individual student schedules for employment.
- Develops the driving routes and schedules to ensure students get to work on time and there are drivers to cover each shift.
- Develops and provides Career Experience Orientation Program to all students involved.
- Maintains frequent contact with supervisors of student workers, making sure that student performance at the career site is satisfactory and the needs of the site are being met.
- Visits students at the career sites weekly to monitor student progress and provide ongoing feedback to students about their performance.
- Advises students on job and career related matters.
- Provides support for and assists in the supervision of career development instructors. Collaborate with Success Seminar Instructor to implement instruction in career development.both in the Career Experience component and in Success Seminar.
- Writes a career site evaluation for each student using comments and input from supervisors at the career site, including recommendations for next summer.
- Tutors/assists students individually and in small groups during nightly study sessions, as well as Common Time.
- Delivers Upward Bound SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) curriculum via Advisor Group facilitation on a weekly basis.
- Serves as an advisor to a select group of students for the duration of the program.
- Initiates and facilitates social and cultural activities.
- Supports students during their free time through companionship, support, and positive role modeling.
- Supervises bedtime hours and sleeps in the dorm except on weekends and nights off.
- Participates in staff meetings to discuss program progress, planning, and student concerns.
