Position Location: This is a full-time position located in Augusta. This opportunity allows partial tele-work with management approval.

The Maine CDC Tobacco Prevention and Control Team within the Tobacco and Substance Use Prevention and Control (TSUPC) Program is looking for a Tobacco Prevention & Cessation Coordinator to coordinate and oversee Tobacco Prevention and cessation efforts in Maine.

This position will oversee contracts for Tobacco Prevention and treatment including Maine Prevention Network, Synar (tobacco retailer inspection), MaineQuit link and MaineCare medication voucher program contracts. This position will collaborate with TSUPC contracted vendors, other Department Offices and stakeholders on planning, developing, organizing and expanding Tobacco Prevention and cessation efforts in Maine. This position will provide technical assistance to contracted vendors and community partners statewide on Tobacco Prevention and cessation. The position is responsible for ensuring contract compliance of deliverables and reporting requirements as well as invoice approval/denial. The position reviews invoices and assists the Program Manager with ensuring prevention and control services are delivered within the scope of the contracts. This position may require in and/or out of State travel.


Core Responsibilities
As a key member of the TSUPC team, your core responsibilities will include:
  • Oversee Tobacco Prevention and treatment contracts to ensure vendor compliance with deliverables and reporting requirements as well as invoice approvals/denials and provide technical assistance to contracted vendors.
  • Facilitate meetings with TSUPC vendors for the purpose of oversight and collaboration of Tobacco Prevention and cessation efforts.
  • Assist the Program Manager in partnering with the US CDC to expand Tobacco Prevention and cessation efforts in Maine.
  • Ensure coordination and integration of Tobacco Prevention and cessation efforts with other relevant programming across the TSUPC portfolio.
  • Assists as needed, with grant writing and re-applications.
  • Research, develop, organize, coordinate and implement the latest Tobacco Prevention and cessation recommends.
  • Facilitate and/or participate in tobacco related workgroups as assigned.
  • Collaborate with contracted vendors, community partners, Department Offices, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure that grants and contracts are based in trust and meet the needs of our community partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or assigned specialty/subject area and one (1) year experience in assigned specialty/subject area.

Preferred candidates will also have:
  • Experience with tobacco cessation or Tobacco Prevention.
  • Experience managing contracts and grants.
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques of disseminating health education information.
  • Ability to plan and organize public health information and education programs.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
